Way cool idea on the colored glass man! My wife does glass fusion at her pottery store All Fired Up! Art was a dieing thing in this country for too long. A friend of mine had an eyeball with optic nerve made for him. It took three years, 37 tries and he got #38. Man, that is one cool piece of glass with a lot of work in it.
Now, go burn your fingers on some funky new color you'll come up with.

Oh, and is it easier to remove the bars whole with the little pieces of wire still in the back? If it helps keep the bars together and speeds it up on your end that might not be so bad.
MTP. You should have the ability to edit your initial post. Most buyers use that post to keep updated pricing listed. It makes it easier to see a current price rather than scroll through the pages. Just wanted to confirm that you will take the glass with little bits of metal attached? Cleaning out the last few scraps can be pretty labor intensive and causes a lot of powdering of the glass which also reduces recovery. If you are able to work around the metal remnants you would probably get more glass from us.Quote:

Myself, I would not break a TV tube because of the release of chemical powder inside. There is also a sheet of metal inside the tube and between the two sheets of glass.

The electron gun is accessible thru various means, the top, going through the protective glass, an sure other ways. None of the ones I just mentioned require breaking the leaded part of the tube.

Man, I give up. Nobody is asking you to smash a tube. If you are, your doing it wrong. The electron gun is where the glass he needs is as at, an it's easily removed without breaking the freaking tube. Go try it yourself if you don't believe me or the others who have done it successfully. The OP even told a way to do it without breaking the tube. As have I an others. It's not that difficult.

To those taking on this task, do it the right way. Don't smash the tube, if you can't do it without breaking the tube, just don't do it. To those that don't like this, then don't do it. If it doesn't fit your moral compass, it's not like he's asking you for baking soda to make crack or sell him batteries to make meth. You did know that right? Those batteries you pull out of cell phones, an other items, can be used in cooking meth. Keep that in mind next time your hollering at some glass blower that is capable of making everything from pipes, to glass eyes, to other awesome items from glass.

As for anyone that has any questions about how to recover the glass the right way, just read. There is nothing stoping u if u don't want to do it because of some moral value that u have that is really nonsense. If I had to break the leaded glass to recover the bars I wouldn't do it either. I work part time as a replacement window installer for several companies (window world, champion, and american windows). We deal with lead paint almost on a daily basis, and I know the proper precautions and procudures for dealing with lead. So I know how dangerous it is, and I would not touch it due to the epa regluations and all that other bull sh*t red tape that we have to go through. Some good, some over the top.
So before I take over this thread ranting and carrying on ablout all this, just take this one piece of advise. If it is not for u because u think it is too dangerous, or life threating, or does not meet ur moral standards, then don't do it, but don't sit here and shun anyone else that does it the right way and b*tch about what they are doing wrong when really they ain't doing nothing wrong
It's probably a lot my fault. I had written they were "in the tube". That was probably misleading if they didn't know what I was talking about. I edited my first post, hopefully it helps!
Till when are you going to be buying this ?
Until I decide it's not worth it, basically. We'll see what happens when I start experimenting. I'm willing to at least give it a few months to try.
