If you scrap CRT TV/monitors, I want to give you $5/lb for something you throw away!!

    Hey everyone,
So if you scrap CRT TV's/monitors you probably know the electron gun (metal part) inside the unleaded, funnel glass. On this electron gun are TWO GLASS BARS. I'm hoping to repurpose these bars of glass. They come in all different colors and shapes, but here are some examples:

The brown bars in this picture:
    http://wpcontent.answcdn.com/wikiped...250px-Egun.jpg

The green bars in this picture:
    http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/electron-gun-2.jpg

They are hard to remove whole, so even if they're broken I will still buy them. I'll pay $5/lb for this glass, sorted by color, so if you scrap tv's, throw them in bags, and I'll buy whatever you have. I won't buy the glass from the funnel or tube, only those glass bars. If interested, email me at mtpglass (@) gmail.com Thank you everybody, this is my first post, I'm sorry if this is the wrong area for this.

    Offering $5/LB
Must be sorted by color for full $5/lb.

    Thanks again!
    Ben

In order to do that, I would have to break the tubes. Not too keen on that.

Someone else, a year or more ago, was mentioning the "Glass part" in CRT TV's.

I did a bunch of searching for what I thought he was talking about, the two bars of glass on the gun are what I figured he ment. Or the sheet of glass in a 'Time delay'.

Turns out he was talking about the little glass bit thats used as a heatsink on rectangular transistors......... aaaarrrrrrrhhhhhhhh! I have never ever seen one before..

So, OK, What do you use the glass for?

    Haha!

He does good work. An I will have to keep eye out for that glass piece, the op is asking about.

OP I think it's time to think expansion to WA and CO...lol. Good time to be into glass, even more so if your in those states!

Sirscrapalot - I could find a quote, but I don't feel like it.

MTP you do do some really good work.

Update your page some more tho!

An BC I hear ya. Rumor is a lot of places are looking into it. More cash for the coffers an all that.

Perhaps you should post what you are willing to pay for the glass tubes so people can determine if it is worth it to collect them.

In a email communication earlier today he told me that he would pay for shipping and give 3 dollars for the usable bars. If they are broke in a couple pieces he said that is ok, long as they are sortable.
Sorry mtp if I jumped the gun, but I have noticed several ppl wondering the same things I spoke to u about earlier

reread his post again an I got this..

    Just the bars.

Price = Will pay what we'd get for copper by the lb.

" I'll pay per pound about what you get for copper,

    Hope that helps anyone else.

Thanks, everyone, glad you appreciate the art! Seems like this community is my kind of people
I'm interested in only the glass bars that are on the electron gun, which is the metal part that is inside the tube. I'll buy them in most any color/size/shape. They are a type of glass similar to Pyrex. With enough of any particular color I can melt it in a furnace and repull it. Although it takes a lot of one color to fill a pot, and there is a large amount of waste, some of the colors are fun and I just love the idea of recycling glass from inside old monitors.
I'm offering $3/lb. I'll cover all shipping costs too, obviously. I very much prefer if they're in one piece, but I understand this business is also about speed of recovery so I don't mind if they have to be broken in a couple places to get them out quickly. As long as they can be sorted easily. I can possibly pay a little more for certain colors.
I hope this answers some questions, thanks again! Please let me know if there are any other questions, or if you want to send me pics to make sure you're collecting the right thing, feel free. Every crt screen has two of these in there, and they're worth a few cents each, which you guys know add up quick to some extra $$

If anyone is interested, and feels like it, please let me know your progress. Is the removal process hard? What colors/shapes are you finding? Is it worth it for you? I've only ripped apart one TV so far, so it would be interesting to hear what everyone else is finding. Thanks again guys, I'm excited to see how this glass recycling venture goes!

I tried removing some today and it just completely broke apart. The glass was like pinned to the metal.
