    Wanted: Old Computers

If it's old (pre-1990), before you scrap it, get in touch with me. If you're not sure what you've got, I'm also happy to answer questions (or at least try to).

Edit: Old digital calculators/adding machines too!

There are a lot of these Commodores still alive today, and they are popular. If those items you listed are working and look OK, you can definitely sell them for more than scrap value. To give you a rough idea, recent prices for completed sales on eBay of the Commodore 64 + 1541 drive + extras (software, cables) have been in the $60 to $150 range, not including shipping. If you sell them locally, your price will be lower, but as I said, these little critters are popular, so it shouldn't be too hard to find them a good home.

Here's a picture of a whole C 64 rig, just to make people smile:

Now that brings back memories. My first computer games were on a Commodore, and Amigas.(Surely I spelt that wrong...)

    Man I feel old now.

Sirscrapalot - Officially a year older as of 45 minutes ago.

Kim and I have been working a deal for almost a month now. I picked up some items that she was interested in and then found another one at a local auction, I sent her the info for the auction and she told me that I should go and check it out. I took her to the auction with me via email, lol, and wound up picking up another computer for her. She has been very upfront with her offers, sending me comparable sales of like items so I would know the value of the items and what she was willing to offer. I think in the end we will both be happy, I will be getting more than scrap value and she will finally be getting her PET.
I also picked some things up for myself, I got an oscilloscope (don't know why but I did) and an aluminum Christmas tree with color wheel and rotating base.

Older o-scopes have a lot of high end boards. Some with the gold topped eproms. They are also good for resale value to collectors as well. Investigate it before deciding to take apart. Either way you will make money on them.

That's what I was thinking when I got this one, I should have bought the other ones that they had, just wasn't thinking at the time. The first one that went up sold before the computer that I went there for (for Kim) so didn't want to tip anyone off as to items that I was looking for.

When I saw you mention Osc...I thought the same as BC. I'd like to find one one of those times.

While I've yet to work with FL...She's been a great help to me with some computer issues, the lady knows her stuff fellas. Don't be afraid to contact her with your older items. She gets it done, an knows what she's doing far as the computer world goes. I can't sing her praises enough as a valuable resource to the rest of us.

I look forward to the day I have some vintage items that may be of interest to her.

Sirscrapalot - Giving two thumbs up.

Thanks, Brandon. It's a pleasure to work with you, and it is a truly rare pleasure to encounter someone of such sterling character. Hmm, since we're at SMF, maybe I should say platinum or gold instead of sterling... Anyway, what I mean is that they just don't make 'em any better than you. Thanks again for everything.

Gee, Mike, couldn't you be a little more enthusiastic?

Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm having a great time working with you and am looking forward to seeing all the great finds you come up with. I don't know how SMF does it, but I am just meeting the nicest, most pleasant, most decent people here that I could ever hope to meet. Thank you for being one of those people, Mike.

Sadly, that's another thing I'm learning here. I never thought "scrapping" had any negative connotations, but I guess for some people it does. Look at the bright side, though -- it's still better than being a lawyer.

(And please, if any lawyers read this, don't be offended. You know what I'm talking about.)

I am in the process of selling Kim a couple of machines I have that didn't see the working end of my drill yet. Have a couple of details to work out with her but I am happy with what has been worked out so far.

Also wanted to add that through another deal she made with another member here I found a place to get fair pricing for some of my unshippable ewaste. I also will be getting good pricing on some of my non ferrous scrap as well. Thanks Kim!!!

Hey Kim I found my tie and shoes so I hope your calvins and hair will be ready when we meet. I also have a cassette player ready for the Pet Shop Boys
