Roughly how many of these make a Lb?
It takes about 20-25 3.5" platters... 150-200 al spacer rings... And magnets would be all over the chart depending on their size anywhere from 4 to 30ish??? Hope that helps??
CTscrapman-
A couple quick questions- are you still taking platters? Any size? Mixed sizes?
Do the hard drive magnets have to paired up, or will you take singletons? Does it matter if they are scratched up a little bit (from being pried off each other with pliers) or do the magnets have to be "cosmetically perfect"? What if they're paired up but one chunk of neodimium peeled off one plate and stuck to it's sister (likely never to move again)?
Just curious. I don't have more than 5 or 10 pounds, but I'm trying to clear off some shelf space in the work room...
cheers,
thebugguy
I am taking apart hd they are three size of platters does that matter
No the size of the platters does not matter. They just cant be bent or have any drill holes... thanks
I just completed a transaction with CTscrapman and all went well. I sent in a combined shipment of HDD disks and HDD magnets in USPS Medium Flat Rate boxes. I might have been able to do a better job on the shipping costs but a 40lb box of magnets is above what I am supposed to lift and it is more than I want to lift(medical reasons). Time between shipment arrival and payment(PayPal) was very fast.
I am happy CTscrapman is a buyer on the forum. Mike
I am ramping up to putting together a shipment of platters and magnets. I just need to wait to get paid so I can order an adapter to test/wipe the HDDs. I’m going to sell the ones that have good resale value on eBay and scrap the rest. Looking forward to doing business!
Thanks Mike, it was a pleasure working with you. My postmen must hate coming to my house I've had 70lb boxes show up. you might want to look into regional boxes next time might be a little cheaper.
Hi, are you still buying magnets? At what price? Thanks.
hi andre,ed here, building a load for you.2 bins full p4,p3.i have a question about hard drive boards, why are the worth so much more than dvd boards and motherboards ? i will call when i can fill your car,ed.
I wanted to add a review, although it'd be several months old by now. I sent hard drive magnets flat rate to him, paid the day he received them. Excellent transaction.
Hi all,
i have adjusted my prices a bit as the market for the items i buy has taken a down turn. Please see my thread for the changes. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Hey are you still buying magnets, HD platters and laptop HDs? email me your shipping address: i'm at tralfa57@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Another review for CTScrapman. Sent two boxes of magnets, paid upon arrival, no fuss at all. A+
The prices are from 11-30-14, are they still correct??
You'd have to ask him. We just don't have many magnet options these days.
Hi all, I just did an update of my current prices. Wolf thanks for the feedback and for keeping the magnets together in pairs for me. It makes life much easier on me.
Not all were paired up, probably less than half but we tried to keep likes together...
Just checking to see if anyone here knows if CT is still buying magnets. Sent a PM and email, been a few days and no word back. Hope all is well :)

Yes you are correct. I currently buy laptop hdd's on this forum publicly. I do buy desktop hard drives that are working for a premium, I have just been doing it locally. If you email me I will send you a price for them,
haha... thats because im probably a little wonky. The beaches down there were very nice and not too crowded. i will see how it is when i go back in August
Hi Andre, if I sell you my HD platters what data security precautions are in place?
Also, do you have any suggestions for what to do with the motors? It seems there is a buyer for every part of a HD except those (including scrap yard for aluminum). Should the motors just go to the scrap yard too?
Thanks,
Cheryl
Email sent to yahoo.
That's odd I thought I had responded to you I will check my emails to make sure I didn't miss something. You can also PM me Mike
Hey everyone, prices have been updated i just want to say thanks everyone for the continued business.
Magnet price with steel on or off?
He wants the backplates left on the magnets.
If you will go back and read the whole thread (only 4 pages) you will find more useful info on how to pack and tape the boxes so they won't rip open during shipping.
I've got a bucket full that I'm going send. Going to the post office in a few to get some boxes.
Hi ALL, I am now offering a partial credit on shipping for a limited time. You must send a minimum of 25lbs of material for a medium flat rate box or 35lbs for a large flat rate box. You will get a $11 credit for the medium and $14 credit for large flat rate box. Thanks for the continued business!!!
I just completed another transaction with CTscrapman. Again a great transaction, fast turn around, great communications and most importantly I got paid. Thank you, Mike
Happy New Year to all of you on SMF. Prices have been updated!! I will be adding more to the buying list in the very near future.
Excellent. I will definitely be sending soon. I'll use a regional box that will save us both $$. Happy New Year Andre!
