Mike,
While I respect the fact that you have been here a long time and I enjoy reading your input and comments
I don't get the point of your post/reply.
Please allow me to offer clarification to my post. Hopefully you will not take offense but rather have a better understanding of why I feel the way I do .
While we all realize there is a calculated risk in everything we do that risk is usually very, very small and rarely occurs . You yourself stated "I have been buying and selling on this forum for going on 7-8 years I have had one issue" and you were able to resolve it. That to me is proof that there is a high degree of certainty of expectation of positive outcomes .
Why not offer us some positive advice based on what you went through so that we can move forward instead of what seems to be
an "Oh well , better luck next time" attitude ? ( I may be wrong but that's how I took it )
People here are upset and only each person involved can know how they should feel about it because we do " have skin in the game"
If we are going with definitions go with a real dictionary - not Google - it's not complete and offers the weakest possible definition of the word.
The word expect is used where there is a high degree of certainly ( not a guarantee of it ) but it's about as close as you can get without it.
See below.....
From Merriam Webster- I highlighted the important parts.
Definition of expect
intransitive verb
1 archaic : WAIT, STAY
2 : to look forward
3 : to be pregnant : await the birth of one's child —used in progressive tenses
she's expecting next month
transitive verb
1 archaic : AWAIT
2 : to anticipate or look forward to the coming or occurrence of
we expect them any minute now
expected a telephone call
3 : SUPPOSE, THINK
4a :
to consider probable or certain
expect to be forgiven
expect that things will improve
b
: to consider reasonable, due, or necessary
expected hard work from the students
c
: to consider bound in duty or obligated
they expect you to pay your bills
EXPECT implies a high degree of certainty and usually involves the idea of preparing or envisioning.
Maybe you and I just assign a different degree of certainly to the word - My use of the word is with a high degree of certainty
based on past experience and calculation of the probable known reasonable risks
I usually don't take into account in my day to day business... nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, rain for 40 days and 40 nights, Ultron hijacking my shipment etc....
