And what makes Frigidaire and Soleus Air dehumidifiers worth up to $40.00?

Yep, more or less the experience I found as well. Those scrap yards that will take them, generally pay "tin rate" for the whole unit. Whether they're properly removing the refrigerants I do not know. I've gotten proficient in repairing some of the Soleus and Frigidaire fixes, and will look to rent out some of the machines for a side business. Beyond that, I've gotten pretty efficient in their tear downs and metal break-downs too. Plus, through all my searching around..... I finally found someone who is EPA certified to remove the refrigerants. For those existing commercial systems that still use 410-A and especially R-22, it is in high demand (and likely to even increase further in value/price).

Well, I imagine other brands might be equally worth that. For me, it's been easiest to focus on those that I've become most familiar with. Basically (as partially described in my other reply above), I've found these (older) dehumidifiers to primarily be using 410A and R-22 (the latter I believe is sold for about $15.00 a pound on Ebay). By partnering with an EPA approved contractors who has the tools/tanks to safely remove/store these refrigerants, along with my re-use (machine rentals) of some of the units, and very efficient tear-downs of the remaining metals, etc..... I can buy some of these broken or older working models and make a few bucks this way. That, plus hopefully soon recovering a couple bucks from all the circuit boards I've accumulated while hoarding these over time LOL.

I should point out two things.

1) I am experimenting with buying these units throughout the Eastern U.S. This involves a bit of risk and good deal of coordination on my end because I'd be pre-paying (Quick-Pay through Zelle, Pay-Pal, or potentially other Seller's choice) for them and coordinating pick up at a later date. This has worked for me where I have friends, family, or a couple key contacts within a couple hour drive.

2) I can only pay $30.00 per qualified dehumidifier if it is a 25 or 30 Pint system, $35.00 for a 45 pint system, and $40.00 for a qualified 50 or 70 pint dehumidifier. Generally speaking, most of the older Frigidaire and Soleus Air (brands that I'm particularly familiar and targeting) contain R-22, 410A, or 134A gases. I can pretty much tell right away if a dehumidifier is one I'd be interested in by looking at a picture of the manufacturer label on the back or side of the unit. Still, I'd suggest anyone interested in selling me their older dehumidifier to call (305-303-5175) or email me first (hurricanechaser1@gmail.com), just so I can reasonably determine if I have some means to meet and/or pick up the unit. Obviously, the greater the number of units the easier for me to justify the expense to buy and pick them up.
