Geez- I didn't expect ECS to close up. Hard to believe that was almost two years ago. Interesting article on them: https://resource-recycling.com/e-scr...t-of-business/

I hope the stuff in the auction brings new opportunities to someone who can make money with it

I love a good auction to bad most of them are online now........I'd say the corona virus has pushed even more to online bidding........A true auction to me is show up and bid (can't stand phone bids or online).......Good luck with your auction and you may have a few potential customers here lurking in the weeds

    mikeinreco,

Online platform is the norm these days.

As you suggest, Covid19 will only make them more so.

Online takes the fun out of them, but it also takes some of the deals out. There's always someone bidding on something. I liked the old-style farm auctions. Show up in a blinding snowstorm, and get stuff dirt cheap because everyone else was smart enough to stay home It's a shame that the online platforms charge so much: An 18% buyer's premium and a 9% sales tax adds up really fast

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stuff does go to an SMF member though. It's niche equipment, but if you need something, you need that particular thing

Also they are SSI brand machinery. Not real knowledgeable on shredders/hammermills but from what I've read SSI is a top brand. Only a select few have the building available to house those units. They look fairly big, square footage wise with all the conveyors, etc....

If I can't bid in person, I refuse to go to an auction. Too darn hard to know what I am bidding on when I am getting no feedback from others at the auction. Pictures never show everything. Pre-bid viewings never enough as one never remembers to check everything out.

Doubt you will be bidding much moving forward....live auctions becoming a thing of the past.....you will probably find a few that hold out

You are very correct. At my age I really don't care very much as I can get what I need easier and cheaper most of the time in other ways. I mostly dumped auctions as a source years ago. Last live one I went to was two years ago and it was a waste of time.

That said, there is a live auction every Thursday evening 3 miles from here, but I have never gone there. And another one every two months 10 miles up the road, and I have never been there, though did drive in one time to check out a vehicle up for auction.

One of my best scores came from a live auction..........Soon after the auction started a snowstorm hit and most everyone left..........Scored about 10 grand in computer equipment for around 2 grand.........With that said they went totally online after that
