For those who’ve been part of the forum for a while, you might know me as Andrew. I’m one of the original founders of
ScrapMetalForum.com, and moving forward, I’ll be posting under the official
Scrap-Metal-Forum account. This change will make it easier for all members—both new and old—to recognize official announcements and updates from the admin team. Rest assured, I’m still the same person behind the scenes, dedicated to making this community the best resource for scrap metal enthusiasts.
I also wanted to share some news about
User Admin, the other founder of
ScrapMetalForum.com. He got married last year and has been focusing on his career. I’m happy to say he’s doing great! With his growing responsibilities, he decided he didn’t have enough time to actively maintain the forum. After some discussion, we agreed that I would take full control of all aspects of the forum moving forward. I’m excited to continue building and improving this community, and I appreciate everyone’s support!
User Admin was the one who handled most of the web design, coding, and forum settings over the years. While I’m familiar with a lot of it, there are still some areas that will take me a bit of time to fully adjust to. I’m getting up to speed with the backend, but I appreciate your patience as I work through any technical hiccups. My focus is on keeping the forum running smoothly while continuing to improve and grow our community.
I’ve been going through the forum, checking and repairing links, and organizing content to make navigation smoother and more intuitive. There’s still work to be done, so bear with me while I continue updating things. I appreciate your patience and will keep you posted on any major changes!
Some Recent Forum Updates:
- Spam Control: Spam posts seem to be under control, but as always, if you see anything that shouldn’t be there, please report it.
- Pay-to-Bump Feature: This feature is currently not functioning. For now, threads in the Buyers/Sellers Section will be listed by the most recent post—whether it’s a new thread, a member comment, or a reply. This will prioritize and benefit active members who update their posts and answer questions. However, please do not spam-bump your posts just to stay on top—I will be monitoring this section for any abuse.
- Location Prefixes: New location prefixes have been added for Canadian provinces, Australia, and United Kingdom members.
- SMF Shop Updates: I will be adding new customizable items (business cards, flyers, truck magnet templates, etc.) and official ScrapMetalForum gear (mugs, hats, t-shirts) to the SMF Shop.
- User Group Name Change: The “New Guy” user group has been renamed to "New Member" after a request from a fellow scrapper lady who felt left out.
- Forum Navigation Updates: New menu tabs have been added at the top of the forum for Buyers/Sellers, Local Removal Services, and The Scrap Room to make browsing easier.
How Can You Help?
- If you come across any spam or broken/outdated links, please report them so I can take care of it.
- Welcome new members as they join and help foster a positive community atmosphere.
- Create helpful threads about your niche in the industry—especially if you have a buyer/seller or service post. Not only will this help direct search engine traffic to your post, but if it proves helpful to readers, they’ll be more likely to choose your service (which you can promote if you are a paid subscriber).
- Post current price updates for different metals in the Scrap Metal Prices section. Frequent updates (e.g., "#1 Copper price is up today to $4.99/lb in Indiana") help keep the forum active and provide valuable, real-time information for members.
- I’ve also added state prefixes to the Scrap Metal Prices section so users can filter price information more locally.
- Add a review of your local scrap yard in the Scrap Yards Directory to help others make informed decisions.
- Follow us on X, like & share posts! The more people who know about the forum, the more activity it will generate, benefiting everyone.
The future holds exciting developments for
ScrapMetalForum.com! I’m looking into implementing new features, improving the overall design, and expanding resources to make the forum even more valuable. I will be exploring ways to engage with the community, introduce interactive tools, and keep things fresh and relevant. My goal is to ensure the forum continues to grow and evolve, so stay tuned for updates and new announcements.
