Scrap Metal Prices Are Tumbling Like A Rock!

I called my yard yesterday to see what scrap metal prices were and found out it had dropped from .13 per 100lbs to .11 per 100lbs this was after I had already offered someone money on a vehicle so I lost out on the deal because I wasn't able to pay them enough money, oh well **** rolls down hill!

On a brighter note, this should weed out the amateurs real quick. More for the serious scrappers. Anytime something loses value, you find out real quick who the pros are because they are still out there (and racking up more of a payload)!

Prices went from .1275/lb to .1075/lb here in metro Atlanta.

The yard I use here in Louisiana usually pays .06 per hundred unprepared on "iron" and .095 for cars there is one a little further from me that pays .10 per hundred unprepared, but it is difficult justify driving the extra 32 miles one way, when I am already driving 15 miles to get to the place I normally use.

Thread here, from May 24th: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/lets-...oing-tank.html

Fortunately, I only have a couple of hundred pounds sitting around, and I'm not likely to dig much up any time soon, so I'm just watching from the sidelines, but I'm always watching...

Prices last week up here in the great white north $285 ton. Prices this morning $225 a ton. Sinking like a ship and like the rest of the us, I'll be the last one off.
I always get stuck holding the door.

I just called my yard, and right now, it is at $7.5 per 100lb. That is an almost $4 decrease! That is BAD!

Glad I have been doing more and more junk removal jobs, I tell you!

Up or down who cares the drop or rise wont be significant heck it could go sideways either way mills will still buy and yards will still ship... This was a direct quote I recieved from my post ( are prices rising or falling in the near future) I got a lot of smart remarks on this thread. It wasn't a question as much of a statement. It was for you to ask yourselves.

Been waiting for this day for 18 months times coming to purge the scum out of the industry, going fishing til the market comes back. Waving bye bye to the thieves, scumbags and fly by night operations will be worth these bad prices.

Yeah, scrapping has always been secondary to junk removal for me George. But it has been a really NICE secondary!

I agree...it is becoming more and more secondary to me to as well.

I mainly go after the stuff for electric motors, wire, copper, brass, and aluminum. Other than that, I dont worry so much over it no more.

My thing now, is finding a dumpster company that will be a little on the low side for cleaning out properties.

    Still working on that though.

I hear you PTS. When they told me $150 a ton, I almost fell over in my chair. Told my wife, that I sure was glad that junk recycling was doing good! Other wise, might be getting back into re investing sooner than later lol

I was surprised at how quick the prices tanked here in Utah. A couple weeks ago it was 170\ton for shred. Went in Monday and it was only 140\ton. Thats a pretty big percentage drop.
