shock at the local yard today :

dont do much metal scrap any more except for e scrap perifials took a small bit to the local yard today for some quick cash.

    #2 copper $2.30 down from $3.28

cast alu .30 down from .51

they are total rip off artists to begin with but this is total B.S.

I had about 50 lbs of server heat sinks that could only be extruded not cast, complete with extrusion lines on the side, they refused to give me any thing but cast price, so I didn't bother to tell them I will have 4 or 5000 lbs of them in about 2 months.

prices have took a hit over the last several weeks, we have been hoarding what we can and just selling our car bodies and extinguishers bodies enough to keep the cars coming in

Prices have taken a hit but extruded is still extruded. You don't like the prices go somewhere else or hoard but they should pay you for what you are selling. Good yards are honest and consistent. Good luck olddude. Extruded .60 by me lets talk shipping?

I go with duece2000, if you don't need to sell then hoard, it won't be long till it goes up again.
and if it's in the way you have bite the bullet and let it go.

My yard is down $100 per ton from a month ago.

Wishing I had a place to hoard scrap until it rebounds.

This next week i'm switching gears to "hoard" mode at the shop. Going to set up the shop so i can easily and efficiently hoard, and keep my sell stuff going out.

Hoss I am also hoarding. Mostly my copper, brass, ss, motors and transformers. I'll continue to sell the iron and tin to make room for everything else. I am also hoarding my CPUs, ram, and fingers.

I've got a question for you though. What are you hoarding and what are you pushing through and selling?

Yeah, my yard's down a little across the board... nothing like the OPs, though!

I'm'a start hoarding everything but ferrous. I don't have the room to hoard 2 tons of ""tin"" a month.

I wish I could hoard some stuff but I need to keep the cash flow going. Seems like it goes out faster than it comes in. LOL

Hoard with caution,I don't know how many of you guy's where scraping in 2008,Tin/shread went from $325.00 to $30.00 a ton most yards would not buy copper,or aluminum for any price because they could not find any buyers, containers that were shiped were rejucted in china and the shippers had to pay to ship the material back to the states it was a mess i bought a load of wire from gov Liq wire #2 ins was 1.10 in the same time fram that wire went to .18 it was a dump trailer full load, sold the wire for a big big loss after holding it for eight weeks so from that devastating loss i have learned to sell what you have and buy from the market conditions at hand not what you Think it is worth

Im bulking up to unload in next weeks. I don't hoard exactly, but save up to have at least 1000$ worth of copper and whatnot before I cash it out. Im just gona sell and hope for the best, most of my copper was free so even at 1.50 a pound it'd be all profit.

my theory is that i'm willing to move 1 4drawer file cabinet of scrap with me if i get a job/buy a new house/ whatever. so whatever fits into the file cabinet i can save and sell when the market is high. i have other file cabinets that i use to sort boards/computer parts into. it works pretty well, since there isn't much options for vertical storage with minimal handling involved. so when a drawer is full i find a box and take it in or ship it if the price is worth the difference. the file cabinets have the half high drawers inside so stuff dosn't fall out, and stuff like processors i can put multiple boxes into one drawer. i would probably be easier to explain with a video...
