That's better than the prices I was just recently quoted from a place in Middlesex, VT. They were trying to pay me .25 lb for 33% recovery insulated, same as comm. I'm guessing they dont have the facilities to "strip" their own wire.
Is this anywhere near central VT?
I've only seen one real wire stripper In vt. ..and he only deals with copper and I'm not gonna make special copper drives. How far you from hinesburg.. shop around and call. I've notice big price different from yard to yard
Hey I dont where in VT you are located but I operate a yard right over the boarder in Granville NY, I got stronger #1 and light iron prices. If you ever interested in making a trip send me a message.

For me, yesterday (9/26/12 as well), my prices were :
Light Iron - 145.00/short ton
Bare Bright - 2.95/lb
#2 Cu - 2.75lb
Cu Sheet (light) - 2.10/lb
Old Sheet Al - .40/lb
#2 Insulated - .80/lb
Lead Acid Batteries - .16/lb (yuck)
Yellow Brass - 1.65/lb
Yeah not so great all around
"tin (you guys call shred) .05 lb-.06^500lb"
5 cents per pound wont even cover the gas money to haul it, i bet there getting alot brought in at those prices
yo jghilino that was like 3 months ago, its alot better than that dude!
From Wed. 10/24/12 :
BB - 2.85/lb
#2 Cu - 2.60/lb
#2 Insulated - .80/lb
Old Sheet Al - .40/lb
Cast Al - .38/lb (I think)
Extruded Al - .50/lb
Light Iron - $125/2000lb
Heavy Melt - $185/2000
If you don't mine me asking what are your prices over there. I know prices are low everywhere but if I have a good load it may be worth it
long time since I've posted. update on Vermont pricing. coppers the best its been in a while, but steel is just...well turd.
10/31/13
bb copper: $2.90
#2 copper: $2.70
sheet alum: $0.40
#2 wire: $0.70
electric mtr: $0.15
cpr/alum raid: $1.20
sheet steel: $0.065
#1 prep steel: $0.085
alum can's $0.06 per can(state deposit lol)
I've realized that each yard pays good on a couple things, like sheet alum...3 places each different .25,.30,.40 all within 30 mile ratios.
you might want to save up your electric motors and bring them to NH i'm getting double what they are paying you. everything else seems on par

Was just up there this weekend ran up 112 to rt 9 from Mass. saw a few car yard advertising $200.00 for scrap cars.. I know down here they are giving owners 300 - 400 for the car then they scrap it so they must be getting at least 500-600 for the vehicles I would assume never looked into scrapping a vehicle..
I know the other prices are close to NJ prices..
steel is up!
$20 a ton across the board! yay
