NYC Pricing - need some help / advice

    Hi guys,

Definitely a newbie to scrap, today visited a scrap yard in the Bronx and sold what they call "light irons" for $220 a ton. Have a lot of heavy metal steel that I have cut down to 3 footers, hoping to sell it as hms #1 prepared. When I asked for the hms #1 they said it would be $230 a ton . How could this be? Does this sound right? I would have never wasted the time, energy and money to cut them down for $10 a ton. Thinking that they are looking to screw me...

Can someone please advise me and additionally recommend a good / honest scrap yard in NYC, preferably the Bronx.

    Thanks so much.

They were angle irons and heavy steel pipes that were used as tire racks from an old Firestone dealer. Cut them all with grinders/sawzall.

That might be the best you can do right now as the prices for steel is dropping.

for angle iron, cut one whole side, and score the other side, bend till it breaks, saves blade money, and i believe faster

on pipes you don't have to cut all the way through, but knowing how far to cut is more art than science.
