    Christmas lights

Took down 80 lbs #2 ins wire, in that 80 lbs was about 10 pounds of Christmas light wire with bulbs and plastic bulb holders cut off. Guy says that Christmas lights pay same with or without bulbs and I should turn them in whole for $.20 a pound. I tell him that I cut off alll the bulbs so it is now #2 wire $1.00 a pound. I have not had any problem with Christmas lights in years, could be the time of year and that they are getting alot of them. And for .20 a pound with lights it may be better to turn them in as is, instead of having them lower the $1.00 a pound stuff! They did pay me #2 ins price for it all! We will see what next time brings!

Always get #2 price as long as bulbs and holders are clipped. I am saving those for the first snow storm when kids don't go to school so I can lock myself in the basement and disappear for an hour of peace and quiet...lol

The best I ever got for christmas light wire (no bulbs or sockets) is .50#. I found a yard that pays .30# with the lights, so thats how I sell them now. I think once I calulated the bulbs and sockets wieghed about 1/3 off the total wieght.

Sell the bulbs on ebay as replacement bulbs, they go like $10 for 100, $100 for 1000. I can go to my local walmart buy a string of 100 lights, scrap it out and make money on it.

I cut off the sockets get 1.00 a lb for #2 and throw the sockets w/ bulbs in a shred bucket for .10 a lb. There is still some metal in those sockets and bulbs.

You can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink. Like i said earlier sell the bulbs as replacement bulbs on ebay, $8 pound is alot better than 10 cents pound, if you have already done the work you should get paid properly for it. Or just box the bulbs up and ship them to me.

Are you talking about the cheap little push in bulbs or the nice vintage screw in's?

The cheap little push in ones. If you google mini replacement bulbs you can see what i m talking about and what they sell for.

have t.p. handy before you open this link:

I can tell you that even the used bulbs go for about the same money.

Good to know, thanks Jghilino. I got a bunches of christmas bulbs, as I strip my lights. My yard pays me a $1 for my insulated, so nice to know i can do something with these bulbs besides have them sitting around taking up container space.

Cool. I guess I'll have to add those to the list of things I resell instead of scraping. It is already amazing how many things I sell on CL instead of scraping out.

Now that is forward thinking! Go one step further and get to Walmart in the days just after Christmas when lights are 75% off original price and stock up. Pack the bulbs away to sell next year.
