Was wondering how many people are now selling plastic like they do scrap metal.
What kind of prices you're getting? Right now I put a ton of it to the road each week for our recycle program.
May have to change Scrap Metal Forum to Scrap Materials Forum.

man i wish i could right now i am working on a plan for our city to put in a $320,000 faclity add on to our current garage processing system but no luck yet but when i get more people in the area to commit to selling to them it will be amazing its simply just a building add on with scredder and bailer
We are a full service plastic recycler. We are located in Chesaning which is 30min from flint. Most computer plastic is either abs or pc/abs. It has very little value compared many other plastics. We do not pay for it but we do take it. Even bailed you are only looking .10-.15 per lb

I'm hoping to talk to my plastic guy tonight. I need a more efficient system to get the stuff over to the guy, so we shall see. There are many different classifications of plasitc, but ABS (which is what is mainly used in electronics) can be sold as mixed plastics or #7. Not worth very much. thats the same price as shred and people are gonna drop it off at your place for free, that sounds like a win-win-win situation for all parties involved

Depends how you look at it. If ResourcefulRecycling processes plastic (Pelletizes it, I think that's a word) then it would be. If he ships it somewhere, I don't see how it would be. I don't see how because he still has to pay for employees, trucks, and shipping and you can't do that on ten cents a pound. Please elaborate on this jghilino.

Even at .10 to .15 cents per pound, it would certainly add to income. If a person has the storage, wouldn't it be worth the time to accumulate and possibly sell plastic once per year. At the rate I have been accumulating plastic, I feel that I will have 3-6 tons by the end of March.
We actually bail it and sell to a company that pelletizes it. All plastic must be clean, ( no rubber, steel, other different kinds of plastic). It takes a lot of time to clean, sort and bail all plastics. Computer plastics are not very profitable, but it sells quick and easy so we deal in it often. You will not be able to profit off it if you have to store it over 6 months and sell it loose.

.10 to .15 a lb would be better than giving it away. I think it's only a matter of time until we see more buyers. Nice to know we have plastics recycler so close.

By me you can sell your #1 plastic bottles for .30 a pound, #2 milk / gal water for .08 a pound and colored #2 for .02 a pound. The city takes ABS now, so I am hoping other places will try and get into the ABS market.
The problem with plastic is that it is light. When I take shred, I usually have a little less than 1000 pounds. I found a plastic buyer, about 40 minutes away, I tipped the scales at 300 pounds. At $0.10, not much profit. I am thinking of ways to make my load bigger though. Higher sides or stack boxes on top and strap it down.

I was talking to one person on here somewhere that offered about .15 pick up for baled abs.the catch is you need about 7 tons for a pick up.baler rental is about 350/mo. I dont have the space or the volume for that one lol

I was going to use a leaf/limb shredder and shred it and throw it into a gaylord. I'll bet you could get 500+ lbs to a box.

Because i can go anywhere and get plastic for free, i cant go anywhere and get metal for free its called stealing. If plastic is the same price as shred and you get it for free your gonna make money. Thats assuming you can compact it enough to make it worth it. Id say just bale it and wait till you have a semi load to sell it. How is this not the same than mixed steel if you exclude the density issue? it all has to be sorted and processed and resold reguardless

jghilino, I worked as a temp in a plastic factory running a big grinder/hammermill. We took old outdated parts, and cut off flashings and run them thru and it came out of the tube about the size of ball bearings. They would blend them back in the process to make new plastic. Our full gaylords would average about 1100 lbs. Plus if you had a towmotor you could stack them to save space.
