Dang, I just cashed in about 60 pounds of cans last Saturday for .55 per lb. I would've loved .80.

Several new yards came to town with big prices. Most of the older yards that had coupons to match price + .01 or .02 cents stopped as they could not make any money doing this. The 3 newest places are offering .75-.95 a pound for them.

Seems my yard is scrogging me over. $0.35 right now. All our cans get cashed in and the money goes in the kids account. Helps with their bikes and toys they want.

As you paid them your .05 in order to get the can! Deposits suck! Loan your money to the state just to lug them back in to get your money back!

So the state gets to keep the money that is paid in but not paid out. If any type of business did that it would be called a scam. Or in their case a gift card =)

LOL I hear ya. We only buy pop in the can and the kids now and then walk with me to pick cans up. Their idea. Keeps us close an stuff.

Just posted about this in another thread but it's relevant here too:

Cans pay significantly more out here in California ($2.00/lb) so virtually every bum does it. The deposit charged at the register (California Redemption Value or CRV) is 5 cents for all containers 23 oz or less and 10 cents if it's 24 oz or more. At 32 '12 oz' cans/lb you're actually making 40 cents a pound recycling them yourself.

$2.16 in Ca. with coupon at my yard. I must say it is awesome when I turn those cans in but, I really hate looking at the receipt from the grocery store after paying CRV!

You are correct and if you pay the nickel there is no guarantee that one or two end up in the trash. I only return my own.
