I just got paid $____ per pound for aluminum cans! - Page 2

I got .60 a pound. I am friends with the owner of a local yard and once it's all said and done they done they pretty much break even on cans after you take into account buying bags water and so on.

.50/lb in Central Indiana

Oh man am I getting robbed! We have the .05 deposit here so I get that for most cans, but all other cans (iced tea, etc.) only pay .16/lb. Seems criminal to be that low.

.55 here in Cincy

$2.15 here, lol. It's pretty competetive here for aluminum cans...i just bought some scales from a CRV center that went out of business.

Here in the UK Sims quoted £0.35 ($0.55)per KG or £0.16($0.25) per lb , was £0.75/Kg a year ago!!!
So i will be checking with some other yards.

.55 last week in concord nc. luckily i live at corner of 2 interstates and have a major road out front that people use as their aluminum can redemption center. lol

$2.20 for aluminum cans, that's the best ever. Normal is about $2.10/$2.15 I deal with three different scrap yards. One of the yards I haven't been using for CRV gave me the $2.20 rate yesterday. Don't know why 5 cent raise but no complaints, I do 8 to 12 LBS. in cans and 10 to 12 LBS. in CRV plastic ($1.15/LB.) every week. Ever little bit adds up to real $$$$.

What is a case of beer or pop in CA???

I asked one day why the yard pays more for cans vs. other aluminum. They told me that they get quite a bit more for the cans because companies like Budweiser have machines that recycle the old cans into new cans and pay quite a premium for the cans. I'm not sure they "break even", that doesn't make much sense. It would seem they would just adjust their price to be in the black.

I think Inbev/Budweiser purchases lots of UBC's every year! Metal markets, scrapyards and recycling centers know this. The price is high as the demand for UBC's are high. If they could make a cheeper product from virgin sources they would.

+1. Up here, about the cheapest stuff you can find is about $18-20 for a flat of 24, and it's pretty rank stuff.
