This allows the aircraft to sit for long periods without being exposed to water which promotes rust. Even when it does rain, the heat dries up the water quickly. It is a very efficient storage climate for aircraft. Again, these aircraft are not scrap. They are stored in case we ever go to war with another country that has a military that can actually compete with ours. Examples: Russia, China, North Korea
A problem that gets worse each day is you still need people that can fly them and fix them, no way many of these will fly again...

Cans have dropped to $.75 - $.90 here. Places keep changing how they want the cans LOL

One place $.75 or $.85 if smashed from top down.
another $.75 if under 50 lbs. cans not smashed or $.85 if over 50 lbs. un smashed as well.
another $.90 with coupon have to be able to see the top of the can if smashed, will pay less for cans smashed sideways. Whole cans are ok. No coupon is $.85 lb.

First I wish I was getting that for cans! Second, I wish I had a yard that gave out coupons!

That is crazy that yards are paying that price for cans. LME aluminum price with Midwest premium is only like 81 cents.

Yep, Not illegal in AZ to offer high prices, these places must have an outlet in California for the cans. Places like this in Nevada as well...

Yep not illegal in AZ but.....once the cans are hauled to California and presented for crv it becomes crv fraud a felony for the yard operator.

The state of California is going to stop the deceptive practice these yards in Nevada and Arizona are simply stealing money from their neighbor (the residence of California). I don't see how it's not illegal, certainly not ethical or a business I personally would deal with!
California has investigators working in both states and are tracking these yards, making arrest almost weekly now as they cross the boarder. The FBI is also getting into it, as it's interstate crime! You can bet your A$$, this and other internet sights read this. I thank Hobo, he's calling them out.

I should state that so far as I know, all of the arrest so far have been California residents. It is large organized crime, this in not about scrappers trying to sell cans in Arizona for $20 in pocet money. This about tons and millions of dollars, with semi trucks doing the hauling. There is no way these yards are not aware of it, they are part of the crime. Just a matter of time before federal charges against the owners of these businesses. California Attorney General and U.S. department of Justice task force has been formed.

I worked at the "Bone Yard" for two weeks, getting two Navy A-3's ready to fly again. They had been decommissioned in the 60's, a group of civilian navy mechanic's had been there for six months working on these two planes. So they had already put new engines, hydraulics, and patched the holes up. I was picked up in California, flown there in a Cessna-135 (single engine prop), my orders "have them ready to fly in one week". I had the first one ready in four days and we flew it back to Cal. As a favor I dragged my feet, and we flew the second plane out of there ten days later. Those planes do sometimes fly again, they looked like $hit and we could not fly to elevations and I never took my parachute off until we landed back in Calif. We needed them for a missile program, the little holes in them really didn't matter, as we were going to put some bigger holes in them later!

I haven't sold any metals in a couple of weeks, still processing a lot, but just holding for now. So I'm only selling my C.R.V. recycled cans and bottles, as these have "held" their values with deposit returns guaranteed by Calrecycle (The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery). Today I was paid:
    C.R.V. Aluminum Cans $2.05
    C.R.V. Plastic PETE $1.17
    C.R.V. Glass $.105

where do you get paid $2.05 for your cans? The most I saw was $1.90 at the scrap yard i went to a couple of times.

You guys in deposit states make me half jealous lol. Right now 30-35 cents is top dollar around my way. And as for plastics, I am still trying to find a decent place to sell... And I'm not quite expecting prices like y'all are getting

Same here Camokid. Took them in yesterday or the day before hoping for $0.50/lb and got $0.35. It was barely even worth the gas and I certainly wouldn't have done it if I hadn't been commissioned to clean the garage so cars would actually fit.....

Haha steelmill, I have a hard time believing cars are supposed to fit in garages lol. I have warehouses and still find a way to bring scrap metal to the house. Luckily I don't have to worry because all my trucks are too big for the garage and my wife drives a lifted excursion so it doesn't fit either (I win that one) but yea man, it's been around 50 cents for the past 10 years and I focus on other metals more than I do cans but when I ran them in the other day I was very surprised.. But everything else is dropping so I guess I should assume cans would too.

Lower prices just mean we need to find more material to make our regular pay checks lol
