My local yard is paying $5.00 per battery. I don't have any experience with recycling battery's. how does this compare to what everyone else is getting?
Thanks,
hwstem

$5 for car battery? last time i cashed in a battery i got nearly $15. take your batteries some place else. my yard is paying 32 cents/lb.
Seems low to me also
I have a guy comes picks them up from me for $11.00 each
If it's a car battery then you should be getting 0.30 per pound or so. If it's a computer backup battery then $5 is a good price.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....
The 3 yards I go to pay $6, $8 and $12 for a car battery. Quite the discrepency in just my area. You can probably guess which yard is the closest and which is the furthest...
Ive gotten the same price per lb for computer backup batteries as car batteries in the past..
Even walmart pays $10 bucks per unit..might have to buy one though, I think
Turned one in On Monday: $0.38/lb at my core buyer.. which is fairly standard, I think this past summer I was getting around $0.42/lb
Yeah, car batteries should be at least 10.00 ea.
NZ $0.60 cents a Kg. = US$0.50cents a Kg = US$0.22cents a Lb
Normally its about NZ $10 -$12 a battery
I have always sold rechargeable lead gell batterys with the car batterys & never thought about it.
In NZ we import a LOT of 'Japanese import cars'. Since they come in with dead batterys we actually import more lead than we use, so our prices are a little lower.

ive just been saving them u from cars i part out, were up to about 20 batteries now
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE
That is low but I'd say probably average around here, prices are low on batt. I know of a yard that pays the exact same.
Well i have not sold batteries for a flat price since i cannot remember any yard that pays you by the piece is taken advantage of you,Right now batteries are bringing betweem 31-36 cents a pound.I some times sell by batteries to interstate batterie they have lots of locations all across the USA .the thing about batteries is they have to replace the lead from there new load,so battery dealers are always looking for lead batteries, hope that helped some of the new guys.
I just dropped off a shztload of batteries today in Calgary. Got 25 cents per lb.
I agree with the others that a "per battery" price is a ripoff. It doesn't fit too well when you are offloading a big Cat battery along with a motorbike battery and the guy is going to give you the same price for each of them.
Jon.
Per battery prices are to get people in the door who wouldn't normally know what they are worth.
A new customer every day make a large profit......
Buying by the battery is not always a ripoff. Car & Lt Truck average 34.5 pounds and other size batteries are figured off that. Motorcycle batteries count as 1/2 a battery; Heavy Truck batteries are 1 1/2 etc. I have a chart from Exide I go by listing all categories of batteries and their value relative to car/lt trk batteries.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
I could bring them in myself and get paid by the pound,
BUT why?
As pointed out average battery weight is 34.5 pounds
I get $11.00 per battery >> so that is about 32 Cents a pound
and I don't have to lift anything but my hand to get the Ca$H
Well let me tell you,I will guarantee that the yard you are selling the batteries by the piece will be selling them by the pound,
Hey Jon, welcome to the forum. Just throwing it out there, but if you're planning on hauling any more batts to Calgary, or pretty much anything else scrap related, feel free to PM me and I might be able to help you get a better price. Batteries should have gotten you around $0.30 currently. I'm just curious who you hauled to, if you don't mind my asking? Thanks, and again, welcome.
