    Tin/shred @ $120 today in SW Oregon. Steel plate @ $175.

    I'm just glad the yards are less than 3 miles from my usual pickup sites.

    !50/ton in Flagstaff from a high of 200 two months ago. Just turned down some metal because couldn't pay what was being asked. Not overpaying again. Someone says it has to do with this quarter so if anything things may get better at the end of this quarter if not then this may last awhile. I remember last year the prices were doing the same plunge but I wasn't doing HMS last year. So I will stick to more profitable and steady products. Peace.

    Looking more and more like this is bigger than a "summer price drop"

    that along with the bad fundamentals, fuel is up, cost of living is up, unemployment is up, retail sales are down, all of these factors play a roll in it

    retail sales came into the market today, they did not meet expectations

    so how do retail sales affect scrapping / scrap prices? well people are fixing stuff and holding off major purchases rather than buying new stuff, so less scrap is being produced and there is less demand for scrap

    the current worldwide economic depression (not a recession, this has gone on for over 10 years now) , means low demand for steel

    This may be true but our cost of living is lower and I feel comfortable traveling with just one clip instead of a handful. ;-}

    Here in Lampasas TX it is $170.00 ton but the yard is 15 miles away or I can go to the yard here in town and get paid $160.00 a ton. I was told they will have to go down soon but don't know when.
