    a dash of cash

I took in a load of shred the other day and was paid 115 a ton. Now how's that for a great price. NOT! But I guess I just have to live with it, The next yard is about 80 miles away. But you can bet I save up all my non ferrous for a road trip

115 a ton! My closest yard does 99.50 per ton. The yard that is about 25 miles south form there is less than 90.

Wow! 115 is pretty bad, Not to brag but were at 225/ton here. Sounds like the yard must be far from whom they sell to. There is 3 other yards closer to me but I go the extra for the higher pay out.

Copper and the other "good stuff" is still a bit below where it sat forever at my yard, but tin has been slowly rising. I'm currently getting 185/ton for it.

at the risk of preaching to the choir
ive noticed that the big scrap companies with branches nationwide are the ones who pay the best/most.
i have 3 scrap yards near me, all within walking distance and the two smaller ones sell their scrap to the big one which i go to.

i see their trucks coming in and offloading

the price difference may not be much but it does add up.

and the big scrap yard which i go to
i notice their other branch in Central Durban is better in that they are not so strict and regard as steel what their branch near me regards as shred/sub grade.

their staff are more helpful too
once i had quite a few pieces of stainless steel & did not realise it.
i offloaded it with my steel
the guys pointed it out to me and allowed me to pick it up and i went & weighed it seperate

Took a load in this past Saturday and got 8.5 cents per pound, so 170 a ton.

I got 185 a ton this week with their dumpster and them picking it up.
It would pay me more to take it in myself, but I don't know how much more.
This way, when they pick up my dumpster, they bring me the check for the last dumpster.
    No hassle, no fuss.
I do hear about people getting more money, even in my area, but I have to wonder if they get the great hassle free service I get.
Shred at my spot can go up to 30% fluff. I have heard some of the other places are much more picky.
We all call the shred dumpster "30%". Around here you often hear "throw it in 30%".

There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!
