How much can I get for junk bullets?

    How much can I get for junk bullets?

    I have 300-400 pounds of jacketed rifle bullets in various weights and calibers. I call them junk because 20 years ago my grandfather bought them at a salvage yard. I tried to load them once but found that about every fifth shot way off the mark. I don't know if they are homemade or factory rejects, but IMO, they aren't worth the time, powder or primers to reload.

    I'm thinking of selling them on my local classifieds for $1.00 a pound. Does this price sound reasonable. Too much? Too little? Some are sorted and some are just jumbled together.

    If you tried to reload them and they are junk to shoot, I would scrap them. My yard takes them at half clean yellow brass price around $.49/lb.

    They aren't brass, they are lead bullets. (just the projectile)

    Call your local or not so local yard and see what they are paying for lead.

    my mistake...
    IMO a little high, but your area may be different than mine. go for it see if you get a bite if not go down by .10 increments till you hit scrap lead price.
    clean it up and you should get 1.00 easy

    Yes, the problem is they are fully jacketed. so cleaning them up is going to take a little more work. scrap lead commands around a $1.00 a lb around here so jacketed lead should run a little less IMO.
    Most local gun stores buy lead, not sure about 300 lbs, but worth a try if you want to try and save on shipping.

    That was fast! I put up an online ad last evening and this morning they are gone by 10:00. I got a $1.00 a pound out of them. I love scrapping!
