Frustrated... I emailed my scrap yard for new pricing. I took a load in on June 14th and got 2.68 for bb, .85 for insulated #2 and .63 for computer wire. Copper is up over 7% since then and he quotes: 2.73 for bb (+1.9%), .62 for insulated #2 (-27%!) and .30 for computer wire (-52.3%!!). I promptly emailed him back asking for clarification. I am not some newbie bringing in 5 lbs of crap. I deserve a little better than that. I mean really... rant over (for now)

He sent over "special pricing" this time. $2.80 for bb (+4.4%), $.95 for #2 insulated (+11.7%) and $.71 for computer wire (+12.7%)

Much better. Can't wait to cash my stash!

I've got 2 places that specialize in wire. Both pick up for free if you have over 100 pounds (2nd place is 500 pounds for me because of distance). BB is $2.91 to $2.98.

then you are getting got for about $0.30 per pound because pretty much every where else in the world wire the size of pencil lead or larger is called bare bright. hell my yard pays bare bright for hair wire as long as its shiny and not coated, they mix it in a gaylord of bare bright (welding lead wire mostly). the yards here are quoting roughly 2.84-2.88, the yard I go to just quoted 2.91

I just searched for 'Millberry copper' on the net and got this nice description of coper grades.

For some reason my scrapmetal buyer allmost wets themselves when I bring in bright copper wire.
And they keep ssying my 'anglehair wire' is millberry. I get it from stepper motors and suchlike from the drive motor in microwave ovens.
