anyone know what i could expect to get price wise for this. I have like 1000 pounds of it
my area pays a bit low for stainless i believe...it is 25 to 30 cents per pound around here....and that is for any non magnetic stainless steel
this si high grade stainless i know for 301 they pay around 1.50 or so at my yard. 30 cents is for like sinks and thin stainless
if u have that much, please dont be hasty
ask here on the forums & phone the yards near you
ask for their rate for 601 stainless-make sure the person u are talking to knows what it is
and after they give u the rate, then ask f they are prepared to give you a higher rate if u brought in a large amount
u should be able to get a better than normal rate if u have that much.
wish i had you problem!
I believe urbanrecycling has connections in stainless
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.
Based on the LME (London Metal Exchange) nickel price today at $8.78 and knowing that 601 is 60% nickel, the get on this commodity would be around $5 lb. delivered to the mill. I would quote you around $3.50-$4 lb. because its something that will probably sit around the yard for a while and I would be assuming all the risk if the bottom fell out of the nickel market.
I think it might 604 stainless. Can u describe to me the difference between this inconel. Also what other metals are in 604 stainless. How do u know ot is 60 percent nickel. What about like 301 or 901. I want to know more.
301 SS is slightly magnetic and most yards try to give you number 1 steel for it. It has less than 10% nickel. 304 SS is the minimum grade stainless that is completely non-magnetic and has a min 11% nickel which around here you get $.60/lb. I deal with this type of stainless a lot and can tell you this is the highest prices i've seen in about 2 years. 316 is slightly better than 304. Do a google search im sure there is plenty of info on this matter.
Actually 304 stainless is also called 18/8. This means that it is ALWAYS 18% chrome and 8% nickel, not 11% nickel like CTscrapman said. 11% nickel is 316 SS, which today is trading at around $1.15. 301 is 6-7% nickel and 17% chrome, and is usually only a few cents under the 304 price. If you are getting steel prices for 301 you are getting hosed.
