Question In your experience, what yard has the best scrap prices? ChicagoLand

Hi im new to scrapping and have around 10-15 pounds of aluminum can scrap and copper. I was looking for someone with experience to help me choose the most profitable scrap yard in the chicago land area. Im willing to travel from berwyn il to melrose park Il maybe even to indiana for the best prices. Basically the sorrounding suburbs is no problem to me. So what yard do you suggest?
Or everyone please let me know of the prices you pay. Maybe we can all find a better location if we help eachother! Thanks again!

I am not familiar with the Chicago area, but have done business with Simms and Acme there. I have found for non-ferrous metals I get better deals from owner operated yards around the mid-west. Your volume is to small for the larger yards, but an owner/operator might be sitting on a contract they need to fill. I know we have members from the Chicago area, if they have time to chime in.

1956 has a couple of threads that speak to yards and their operation. Since you are new to this, you might want check out his threads, since he use to be an owner/operator. Good luck.

Close or Far, Here or There, Call for prices and you will get somewhere! Good Luck. I would not travel too far as you only have a small amount. But if you are trying to figure out different yards to see who is better, price, service and such then this could be an option...

Try Big Daddy scrap in Chicago Heights. They post their prices on their website, and update regularly. Service is great.
