Steel prices down at my yard - Page 2

$80/gross ton for tin and $160/gross ton for #1HMS. It is the lowest I have ever seen it since I started scrapping. The manager at the yard was saying that they ship their metal to china and the market for steel is saturated there.

Still 200 a ton here.

Took a load of shred Monday and got 190.00 ton and most of the load was printers and copiers.

Down $10 a ton here.
Prepared iron $140 ..... Unprepared (long) $100

Alternate yard (further down the road) is $160 and $135 respectively but not worth the trip

Expecting another drop.

In 2000 steel was $.0075 a pound here so $15.00 a ton! In 2012 $.115 a pound so $230.00 a ton! Lots of things have happened during these 12 years... China grew lots USA did not, recession, depression what not... I don't think steel prices will fall back to 2000 prices. At least I hope not!

Took a load in Friday of non-ferrous, the owner at the local yard said that his source dropped $20 per ton, so he would have to as well, down to $60/ton here in Iowa for tin (computer cases, etc).

Side topic:
Seeing that you guys seem to get much higher prices, how much would I need to ship across country to make a profit?

Would I need to save up a full truckload/shipping container to get decent enough shipping costs?

7 cents a lb here for light iron(aka shred, tin, long iron) and 9.5 for heavy. Lowest Ive ever seen heavy at. Copper and aluminum prices also dropped, as well as any scrap containing them(wire, motors, irony aluminum, etc). Took in some stuff today and irony aluminum was 10 cents and #2 copper $2.20!

Here in NewZealand the goverment has been manipulating the currency rates between NZ and the USA
The NZ$ was worth US0.90 cents a couple of months ago, now its worth US$0.80 cents

The main reason why, I think, is because the milk price per ton dropped suddenly, by playing around with the rates it won't have as much impact on the farmers. Milks a big export item for us now. Specificly milk powder.
We pay NZ$3.60 for 2 litres milk and about $10 per kg of cheese.

This also means petrol has gone up a bit.

But it does mean that our steel scrap price has stayed the same, while Copper domestic has gone up 5 cents per kg.
Not much, but it will probably go up again soon. I might be seeing NZ$7 a Kg rather than $6.50/kg as before.
My actual scrapyards prices will be higher than what I have used as a indicator, the online scrap prices.

And maybe, since my loads gonna be a lot bigger, a few cents more.
But they do gain a few hundred grams each sale if I sell each week, that adds up.

Took another load in today, yard was cleared out of all the piles they normally keep around. I joked with the staff that winter was coming, they said it was because prices were going down.

But...I went from .045 to .0525 on my load of tin - so either prices are sneaking up or I'm getting royally screwed by the normal lady (who wasn't there today) that makes out the check. I'm calling every day to ask for tin price before I go from now on.

Just keeps dropping up here .12/lb few weeks ago .065/lb last week start, 0.55/lb last week end, whats next week going to look like?????

$140 here last week. Might be lower now!

Anyone else getting more than 140/Ton here in MN?

which is $1.13 per lb
