Lets Talk E-scrap prices

I thought I would start a discussion on the prices for various e-waste items that many may be getting into now that the e-waste craze has started.



I personally have stopped selling my scrap on Ebay because I found another place to sell all of my items that are gold bearing.

Currently I am receiving $4.30 per pound for motherboards and slot boards (video cards, sound cards, etc.)

For mixed ram I am getting $15.00 per pound
For Pentium 2 slot 1 processors I get $11.00 per pound (these are the ones that look like obese ram sticks)

For processors the price varies depending on the type...The price starts at $110.00 per pound and goes all the way down to $35.00 per pound.

Hard drive boards sell for $9.00 a pound

Boards from other drives, like CD or floppy drives, are considered mid-grade and only fetch about .50 per pound.

Low grade, brown top boards sell for about .30 per pound....These are generally the kind that is found inside monitors (CRT) and other electronic items like VCRs and DVD players.

The rest is pretty much standard scrap metal pricing and most goes to the scrap yard. I do not send my low grade boards in for processing to my new place because they are not worth shipping. But luckily my local scrap yard buys them for a decent price.

You are most welcome...I thought I should add that those who want to cut the fingers off the of the slot boards can make some extra money....Currently the cut off fingers sell for $67.00 per pound

I was wondering what you do with the p.s.u., if you break it down for the copper or if you sell it complete?

I break them all the way down and harvest the copper from them, there is also some aluminum that should be pulled before the low grade board is sold.

Can anyone explain were to get the cut off fingers from nd how many it takes to make a pound, I'm always taking apart tvs and computers, but I always just take the copper off the circuit boards and throw the rest in a bucket.

The fingers appear along the different cards, like a video card, sound card, modem etc....It does take quite a few to make a pound but if you are doing computers on a regular basis it does not take too long to add up.

I'm sure I know the answer to this, but are there some boards with little gold flakes or flake blobs in the center of some boards? I've been saving those too, just in case I'm right.

I'll tell you what. Next time I take one apart, I will snap some pictures and start a seperate thread in whatever section to show some identification. I hope the next computer comes soon. I also have some other parts laying around that I will photograph at the same time since they do not always look the same.

i haven't spent too much time collecting circuit boards this past year, but i when i made a point to gather them i just scrapped them whole... i don't remember how much i got for them.... couldve been as low as 0.08 or as high as 0.25

i know what the pentium processors look like, trying to build a good stack of those...

and i'm curious if there's anything really good in an original x-box console? someone was throwing one away last week, grabbed it of course... plugged in and it can't read any discs... oh well... i'll likely ebay it

I just stripped out my daughters xbox that the drive when bad in. Basically, what I found was a bunch of little wires. Components were sat in a metal shield type piece of metal. The CD drive consisted of a few tiny circuit boards, and 2 tiny motors. The main circuit board is good sized and contained about 4 aluminum heat sinks. There was also a few exposed copper components along with a few more that are wrapped up and inter twined with a yellow tape. A pain to separate. Had to cut the tap and pull it off, unwind the copper as far as I could until the next layer of tape. Cut that and rinse and repeat.

Not to much else, but hey, if you spent as much as I did when they first came out, always nice to get a few bucks back on it after its time runs out.

I do realize I could of sold it, but I like to have the opportunity to tear at least 1 of everything apart just to see what it is made of and how much I can get roughly per item.

First I want to thank ComputerScrapper for all the info. Second I have a feeling that E-scrap is going to go thru the roof. Does anyone else feel the same way? I have notice that the talk of computer related scrap has pickup on this site. I now see places willing to take your E-scrap for free, "saving" you from having to pay to dump it. Well there not taking it to be nice. I can promise you that. As technology betters the way that they can extract the precious metals from circuit boards, you will see recycle facilities spring up everywhere. Atleast that's my gut feeling.
