I think escrap prices will tend to go higher since it is pretty much mandatory in every state to recycle electronics. Used Cell phones are going to be the next boom since 150,000,000 are thrown out every year in this country.

There was something mentioned on the Discovery show "Gold rush Alaska" that if someone could reclaim the gold in all the cell phones thrown away each year, they would have about 80 billion dollars in their pocket. I figured it would take about 100 cell phones to make an ounce, based on their estimates. Hmmm,,, Mike:confused:
I have been hanging onto cell phones and batteries. I have access to ALOT of them. I have a close to 100-150 cell phone boards right now.
whats the deal with printers / scanners? are they basically computers?
found medium sized models the other day, usually don't pick up printers, but felt i should grab them as i've been starting to build up my big circuit board box again.
The floor model type Copier/Scanners can have some pretty good stuff in them, some of which could be sold as "parts" on EBay. They have Electric Motors, Good Circuit Boards, and a lot more metal than those PESKY table top models, which are a pain to get into and NOT a whole lot there for "scrapping". BONUS idea on the floor models, some of them have a good "roll around base" that may could be used for a storage cabinet.
Do you know what they do with the \motherboards, slot boards, mixed ram, processors, Hard drive boards, CD and floppy drives, and brown top boards that you sell? I'm curious what happens to these parts once they have been recycled at the top level.
From what I've been reading on a gold refining forum, they break everything down to it's simplest form then reclaim tiny grams of gold, platinum, palladium, copper, aluminum out of the boards and ic chips. It's one of those deals where it takes a lot(of computers etc.) to make a little(gold etc.) Only worth it to them because of the price of gold and the other precious metals. You didn't hear all this commotion when the price of gold was below $800. an ounce. Hope that helps clear up a little,,, Mike
Just wondering how much volume do you produce a month and is the company that you used R2,E-Stewards or ISO14001 certified? Just wondering for downstream purposes.
Hi,
Thanks for the awesome information!!
I would love to have the name of the company where I could send in my e scrap to in Ohio. Will they send me my money or give me some kind of credit? I am in Georgia.
Thx,
Mardigras
You will have to pm ComputerScrapper as I have not seen him on the forum for awhile. Hope nothing bad happened. Or get ahold of Easyrecycle, he advertises that he buys e-scrap in all kinds of volume.
Howdy Gang,
Sorry I have not been here for a while but business is just going nuts for us. We recently purchased a piece of land to run our operation and things are really starting to take off. We are the only E-Waste processor around so we are getting a lot of business.
The company that I deal with is Community Recycling Solutions in Ohio. Bruce, one of the owners, is just awesome and really helps those people out that are trying to get started in this business. The last time I sent him a load he actually emailed me back and said that the prices had gone up since the last load and he gave us more money for the load.
After reading through the thread I see it has become very popular. I agree with the one post that says that e-scrap is going to take off. I have seen it first hand. We are starting to get more and more calls each week.
We have even decided to open up a buying center to take advantage of the new laws. Now that e-waste cannot be thrown into landfills in Indiana we know of a lot of full time scrappers that are dying to have a place to sell the items since the local yards will not buy them. This will help us as the items will be brought to us and we will save the gas and time that it would take.
Does e-waste include any electronic thing such as a foot massager, or a tv remote? .. The stuff that doesn't have much else but a few wires and some low grade board and the rest is mostly plastic?
If so, Houston needs you. haha.
I generally say anything that has a circuit board is considered e-scrap. We have taken a few things that people bring in that are not really e-scrap, i.e. coffee pot, space heater and so on....We have an outlet for plastic so that makes it much easier on us.
Believe me RCA987, if I could work things out in Houston I would lol
Hey ComputerScrapper, glad to hear everything is going well for you. Good luck.
"If only I had known then, what I know now."
I second that,,,
Thanks all.....It is a great feeling to have too much business rather than not enough.
