    Price of MoBos Dropped .65!

One price that I have never seen go up or down at my regular yard is Motherboards (and HDDs). It has always been 1.75/lb (HDDs .55/lb). Went today, thankfully without the mobos from home, and grabbed a price list since I hadn't looked at one for a while, and I noticed the only thing that had changed was mobos, listed as 1.10/lb now. WTF? Has anyone else seen a drop recently? It had been the same here for over 2 years, winters included. I might have to start piling mobos up with my video/sound cards for online sale, since there are no buyers I can find without filling a gaylord and shipping halfway across Ontario.

METAL IS MY MISTRESS...PLEASE DON'T TELL MY WIFE!

I didn't realize it had dropped so far it would affect pricing this much. Almost $4 vs $2 now, I think I'll just sit on them til I have a whole bunch and find a bulk buyer (somewhere, hopefully, it's not easy here in Canada).

It isn't completely based on the gold price... it is based on recoveries and gold CONTENT.

Makes sense I guess since I saw whole pcs go down to $0.35/lb - whole ten cents.

I only get .20/lb for whole units, that's the main reason I tear them down, since I would get about the same for a tower as I would for one mobo, then the drives and steel become money in my pocket. I know of another place that pays a flat rate of 6.50 per tower but I don't like them and they keep changing what they take and how much they pay for it. They have ewaste listed as .15/lb (SUPPOSED to be crt, drives, power supply, dvd, etc) but when I've gone in they always want to downgrade the price for this reason or that. Plus the scale guy is rude and keeps BSing me about how I (read "he") can make more $$.

Any one paying .35 for scrap PCs today is not real bright. You pay the shipping and I send ya a few pallets of servers @.35. just sayin.

I do believe though, when the prices stop getting manipulated they will double or better.

I was looking at the sport market values per pound on Scrap Monster and that's where I got my info. If I'm not suppose to judge it that way, by all means...

Agreed I'm at .18/lb.....Probably pay even less for servers due to all the semi-worthless metal involved

Scrapmonster isn't an accurate barometer for the e scrap market.

I really only worry about steel prices as it pays for my everyday items likes smokes and beer and some of the bills like my phone. other metals pay for my overhead costs which alu is the biggest because of ewaste but prices for alu would have to drop less than 20clb before it would affect anything else. steel here local dropped to 0.04lb now flat at 5.5clb so its ok.
ewaste prices higher are great but for me all that gold goes towards the future with a new house and new place to scrap from and more employees which I hope I can find some that last. that patience keeps me going as I can plan better and put the money to even greater use.

Now this is even more frustrating because I got my biggest computer score yet last night. 7 towers (3 Dells of course, anyone got spare dynamite?) and since the RAM and HDDs were mostly gone, the Mobos are where I'll make my $$$ but now I have to wait til I can send them off somewhere

Since I'm looking at shipping my gold recovery stuff now, was just curious: every buyer seems to want the coin size battery removed from the mobos. Is this just to prevent corrosion? I can't see the little battery changing the weight significantly.

I just had a "Whoa" moment the other day when I tossed an unprocessed MB (still had the battery) into the MB box and saw a spark. (and repeat) Definitely wasn't my imagination. Sparks = dangerous in transit. I think that's why they want them removed but I could be wrong.

    Price of MoBos Dropped .65!

$1.75 from your local yard is a great price they must have been counting on a good variety. Maybe that has changed.

And that's why I was turning them in, because after shipping etc. I can't get much better mailing them off, plus space is always at a premium in my garage, so a tote of finger cards, RAM doesn't hurt too bad but mobos pile up fast and would have my cramped space even more cramped.

I finally remembered to ask today while at the scale and was told "everything is down" and to just save them up. Which is what I'm already doing but I didn't tell him that by forcing me to save them up, I will now have enough to mail off somewhere with better pricing. I already have ten and can't wait to get more!

Now if you lived in Ontario, CA a 20 mile drive south to Corona, motherboards and all green boards get $2.50 lb and cells get $5.00 lb at least that is what he paid my last three visits. I am 23 miles west and will probably go this friday. I have almost 900 cells to unload.
Here I am cyberdan, at yardsales I am dollardan

I'm looking at 3.20 for mobos and 10 and up for finger cards/RAM. I really hope this pans out. Fingers crossed.
