They mostly make pipe for the oil/gas drilling industry and with the price of oil dropping companies slowed down purchases.

Steel mills taking shuts....has anyone purchased new steel recently? Just wondering if the prices of new steel have dropped a lot.
Last I checked, 1/4" plate was about a buck a pound. The local steel yard (a division of a large western Canada steel supplier) closed up shop a few months ago.

Va star in Youngstown makes nothing but pipe for the oil/gas industry. Brand new mill in 2012 was running at full capacity two months ago.
I was under the impression the majority of domestic mills had their demand from gas/oil/shale industries.
