Shred has dropped to .06/lb here. Also ewaste and auto cast iron are down to .08/lb! I'm starting to get a little PO'd! This weekend I have to clean up and I'm going to gather up stuff for a yard sale. Gonna need the extra $$$ if prices keep dropping.

Yeah not the best yard as far as prices but it's my go to for steel as it's not far from me . I just remind myself that this is waste and I'm not selling it essentially I'm trading it for whatever commodity I need . Food , gas or bills . All more useful to me than a pile of steel .

I kind of hope prices don't jump back , it will get us all used to working harder and eliminate new scrapers from entering the ring .

Why is "house siding" different than "sheet Al"?

I have never seen unpainted sheet aluminum and my work uses/sells it. Because of aluminum's tendency to oxidize and look ugly, paint is almost always used for protection.

Painted siding is a known alloy, free of all steel, old sheet is any none cast not 2000 or 7000 series aluminum with 2-5% Fe depending on the package... Painted siding is a better then old sheet :-)

One week ago (10/28/15) sold to my non-ferrous yard the following:

    Copper Tubing #1 $1.85 Lb.
    Copper Wire #2 $1.70 Lb.
    Copper Insulated #2 $0.60 Lb.
    Yellow Brass $1.30 Lb.
    Aluminum Cast $0.45

Not the prices I was use to getting, but better than a kick to the teeth and selling steel!

    Probably/maybe "Clean sheet" is Slang,
MLC has to be new production sheet material not 2000 or 7000,
the term Clip is used as a replacement for MLC(Mixed Low Copper) often because most MLC is clippings and punchings from new manufactured material.
MLC HAS to be free of paint, caulk, steel and extrusions.
MLC will go straight into the furnace, get a test, and be adjusted to get the alloy needed so it is a primary not a secondary alloy like old sheet which gets shredded and processed

I took in the Alum I've been picking up this summer and fall. I don't deal with big pieces so mostly from household items. Didn't take in any computer/tv heat sinks though.

I thought I had about 3 different kinds but they broke it down into 6 categories. I averaged 31.6 cents for the lot, the high was some extruded (didn't even thought I had any of this) at .40 and the low was "clean" (including all my cast) alum at 30 cents. I was expecting a few cents higher per pound but it was basically what I suspected. Cleaning out the garage a bit to do some trapping although the prices with those commodities aren't overly exciting either...

Does anybody think that the American scrapyards will change from Imperial to Metric in the future?

I can do a direct conversion of our NZ $ to the US $,
But I need a formula to convert both exchange rates and Kg to Lb at the same time.

Its in the Americans scrapyards intrest to convert to buying in Kgs, as for every buy they make, they can count on getting a Lb extra on average, for free......

ie, 'Buy 15.5 Kg Ali, pay out for 15Kg'...... Get average of 500gms of free Aluminium..... On every buy!

And Tons, a Ton is 1000Kg, simple.
