I will only pick up steel if I am going to take a trip to the yard for non ferrous. Not worth the trouble. I let someone else get it.

In January I was getting $160/ton for shred, now it's $140.

    Copper #1 is $2.85/lb

    Yellow Brass is $1.75/lb

Please tell me what yard is paying $3.75 for copper!! Might be worth a road trip!

Shred up 15/ton instead of going down, but march is still coming up soon. Now 185/ton. Scale guy said its cause nobody's really been coming in. too cold and snowy. i can believe that.

There might be a couple of things. The Chinese started buying again.

Energy prices took another jump this week at the oil company where i work. Home heating oil & kerosene went up. Gasoline went up. Diesel fuel went up twice. We're expecting prices of 4.50 - 5.00$/gallon for regular gasoline within the next few years. (There's a lot going on right now.)

I'm regularly seeing junk cars on flatbed trailers headed for the scrapyard this winter now that steel prices are up.
