This morning in my car on my commute to work I took in 171lbs of electric motors and a little #1 copper (3lbs). I asked what scrap (aka "shred") was at - $40/ton or .02/lb. I was also told they were not allowed to talk about why prices took a nose dive today. He said it was $60/ton the day before. Sad...
Motors were .08/lb and #1 Copper was 2.07/lb
Down to 3.5 cents a pound in DFW today.

Curious why most posts in this thread quote their pricing in $xx.xx/ton...
My F150 probably won't tote a full ton... at least not more than once
It's carried 1250# before and I was a bit worried.
I always measure it by the pound.
Am I just a lightweight here?
We call 5 yards when we check prices. 4 quote by the ton, and one quotes on a per pound basis. I usually post the highest price, which has been the Sioux City yard for the last few years.
When I started I often took in what I could fit in my truck. Nothing wrong with that. It pays the same as my roll off. Work with what you have.
I carried in over 3000lbs the other day and the price was still the same 3.5 cents/lb

I my first load with the dakota was a ton and a quarter. The shackles exploded on the highway though causing the muffler to catch and break off. 1800lbs was my max for the new tacoma though. only 900lbs over weight. I'd rather not be making channel iron shackles for that one just yet though.
im getting 0.075 per lb here for shred
and 0.087 per lb for steel
I got roughly 3.6 cents CDN per pound yesterday.
the way some of you guys were one here complaining i thought it was down to what it was back in like 2016 at 50 cents a hundred. ya'll had me worried a bit. 3-4 cents a pound really blows but its not as bad as it could be.
