I didn’t ask why Sioux Falls said $1/ton for white goods. I laughed and he laughed. Their ferrous prices are always low. The only thing we have ever sold to them is non-ferrous and only when we have a back haul for the truck.
Both Yankton and Sioux Falls are owned by the Sioux City yard. Both feed the Sioux City Texas shredder.

Shred 50/ton in Chicago Heights Illinois.

Shredder yard 60/ton down from 90/ton. It was a freaking ghost town. most of the employees where picking up trash and raking leaves. I was the only one there

Just got my check in from the last dumpster of steel. Prices are looking to hold steady at $45/ton. I never thought the day would come where less than 3 cents a pound was a good price. Oh well, on to the next load!

The NewZealand $ exchange rate moves around a bit against the US$.

Most of the time its about NZ$1.00 = US$0.66 cents, easy to work out @ 2/3rds US$.
Sometimes as high as US$0.70 cents, nice @ 70% of US$
A high NZ$ is good for fuel prices @ US1.40 / litre (NZ$2.10
A low = as much as NZ$2.60 / litre. Shifting oil prices have to be taken 8nto account.

But while metal prices dropped over a while, the higher NZ$ keep Nonferrous pretty good. Steels been low for a long time @ NZ$30 / ton for lightgauge.
Yep, US$20 a Metric Ton.

But Aluminium ext has set @ NZ$1.50 / Kg for a long time.

Ali Dom & Cast & Cans @ NZ$1 / Kg.
I notice there's a lot of Steel scrap at the yard last week & Ali Extrusion is NZ$1.40 /Kg.

So i go in yesterday & couldnt even drive in.. its blocked with Steel piles & 1 truck & grapple loader unloading it.
The yards got a gate in. Then the weighbridge, the offices are the same length on the right of the weighbridge & the Steel yards past the weighbridge.
At the end of the weighbridge its a 'U' turn back into driveway out & theres a shed beside that for Nonferrous weighing up & storage.

So i go in yesterday & get
NZ$1.30 for Ali extrusion.
NZ$0.70 for Ali cast &
NZ$0.80 for Alu domestic.
Brass was NZ$4.60 /Kg & i sold all of my computer Brass standoff screws, 30 + Metres of them, for 5 Kgs weight.

. Thats 1000 + Computers worth of standoffs. I bought more registration for my car & that saves me having to pay $200 for a traffic fine.

$65 a ton for shred here in Tucson as of Tuesday.

The company i work for phased out cardboard recycling last year. We were taking an awful beating with it. Best guess is that we were spending 20 dollars in labor to get one dollar back on the sale of cardboard.

Green is all good and well but it has to be self sustaining from a money point of view.

Ewaste appears to be taking a beating here. It was subsidized by state government for a number of years. The idea was that you document the piece of electronic gear and then bill the state for reasonable disposal cost. In turn ... the state bills the manufacturer for an end of life fee.

Yeah ... it's not to hard to imagine how that all worked out.

The state pulled a Sneaky Pete and changed the law last year. They made the recycler responsible for billing the manufacturer an end of life fee directly. The Ewaste company that did a great job of servicing this area of the state withdrew shortly after the change in the law and we were more or less left to figure it out for ourselves.

We do have a new waste to energy plant in the works.It was scheduled for completion sometime this summer so it may already be on-line by now.

Where in Maine do you live? My wife's family is from Maine. Her Uncle owns the motel where the Airline meets Houlton Rd.

I will probably be taking a load this week. the phone has slowed and I will need something to do with my time..... and I have a pretty good load of brass and ICW. I will post the ticket.

2.5 cents a pound. Worse I’ve ever got in 7 and a half years doing this. Garage will have to be overflowing to take in next load. Still the exercise and cleaning up the environment still makes it worth it to me. Probably start stripping power chords again.
