All scrapyards by me are ordered to shut down as they are on the list of "non-essential" business and can face fines if they dont shut down.

We will see how this all plays out! Stay safe out there y'all.

They haven't forced any non essential business to close here yet but have put restrictions on restaurants. It's take out food only.

A lot of businesses are either closing or going to limited service on their own. Our company provides essential services to the community so we've gone to reduced hours and are encouraging our high risk employees stay home and sign up for unemployment till this blows over. Many of our employees are frightened.

They announced the first confirmed case of Corona in our county yesterday. An unconfirmed report has it as being within one of our local businesses. One confirmed report is that at least one of our larger offshore islands has closed it's borders to outsiders. Maybe others to follow.

I was considering going to work in full hazmat gear as an April Fools joke but under the circumstance .... maybe not such a good idea ?

Is it reasonable to think that the recycling industry may go quiet for awhile ?

This might be a good time to stay home and work in the shop if you can.

I think it is reasonable to think that ALL industries will go quiet for a while. In PA the governor is mandating the closure of all non-essential biz and put out a list of which can and cannot stay open. We have hundreds of confirmed cases already, and I think at least a death or two. And that number will go up considering we arent reallly testing anyone because there is no tests available, so the spread is likly much much worse, we just dont know it yet because there is no tests to test people

Just as a courtesy to the other members .... it would probably be best to avoid thread drift if we can ? Gawd knows ... i tend to wander off topic with side discussions.

This thread is primarily for posting scrap metal prices. Maybe something clear & concise like " Yards in my area closed. "

We could go into the why in another thread ?

I just wanna be as respectful to others here as possible. Some folks are so tired of hearing about the Corona thing. It seems like it's everywhere you go. There's no getting away from it.

I took in 4Kgs of Berry Copper last week, got NZ6.50/kg for it.

Thats about usual, so my metal prices have not dropped, but thats because the NZ $ dropped against the US$ from 65 cents to 55 cents i think.

    Petrols dropped here too, my 100 Octane was NZ2.44 / litre ( US$1.70? )
    Now NZ$2.11 litre.

Well, you know what they say.... the south side of Chicago... is the baddest part of town... and if you go down there you better just beware of a man name of Leroy Brown.

On point, though, I have a question... I have about 250-300 pounds of brake rotors. Should I expect a higher price for them than "tim/shread/whateveryouryardcallsit"? Or is it probably not worth messing with for such small weight?

The yards by me (when open lol), one has a special category for rotors, and the other will buy them as heavy melt steel (hms or #1 iron at other yards). These prices are usually almost doubles shred/light iron prices. For example I think #1 iron was at $0.05/lb whole light iron/tin/shred was at $0.03/lb... Both those have probably gone down by now though. If you can hold them for a while may be worth waiting on prices to rise

You should look to get autocast for drums and rotors. Some yards will except wheel hubs also as autocast.

And I'll tell LeRoy Brown you said Hi next time i see him LOLOL
