I got $150.00 today a ton for shred steel in St. Paul MN
I got $150.00 today a ton for shred steel in St. Paul MN
FWIW was talking today with one of the yards I sell steel at and he expects to be selling at over $600/gt by April (which prolly means $300-350/gt for those of us down the food chain). Prices are already scheduled to go up in both January and February here and already have a yard offering $350/gt for cast iron starting next week which is over twice as high as it has been since I moved here in 2017.
Ran a couple loads this week. Prepared iron was $230.00/ton and shred was $135.00/ton. Took a little less than a ton each so it was a nice week. #1 Cast was at $270.00 but I didn't run that yet. Yard normally has piles, but the place is pretty empty, they are moving it out. Rockford, IL
If that is true and it gets to that price.... holy moly.... everyone is going to start scrapping, that'll be higher than I've ever seen and will be pretty crazy. I should start hoarding now and quit taking my steel in. I think I got $0.065/lb (which is pretty GREAT compared to what it has been over the last year or two) last time I went in this week.... but if $0.15/lb is on the horizon.... Perhaps I should just pile it up out back for a bit.

Sioux city up $10 to $150/ton
Shred up 45/ton. Now at 200/ton in Chicago Heights Il
Shred was $190/ton CAD. Up from 140 a few months ago. Northern Ontario
Prices in the Bangor Maine area are starting to inch up. It's up to about 110/ton.
Locally ... starting to see more junk vehicles being transported to the scrapyard on flatbeds & wreckers these days. (It's a fifty mile run to the nearest yard.)
Just got $155 net ton, passed another place on way home $165. Lol
Better than the dump!
We do not have a shred category. Unprepared iron is up to $150 ton from $50.00 a couple of months ago. Appliances up from not accepting them to $50/ net ton. Makes it worthwhile to haul the stockpile. 7 tons have already been hauled this week and plan to haul seven cars tomorrow if I get them loaded today. They were prepped yesterday and just need to load them.
Give back more to this world than we take.
I know its cold but how about some photos??? Glad to hear the price is up where you are. Me, I'm not doing anything to speak of and what little scrap steel I have I've given away to other scrappers. 73 for now. I'd say stay warm but I know that ain't happening where you are. Mike
