$8.00 a hundred or 160/ton here in east NC...Highest price for shred in years, Copper went to $3.75 yesterday, starting to see prices climb!
In January I was getting $160/ton for shred, now it's $140.
Copper #1 is $2.85/lb
Yellow Brass is $1.75/lb
They would be paying basically spot

Shred up 15/ton instead of going down, but march is still coming up soon. Now 185/ton. Scale guy said its cause nobody's really been coming in. too cold and snowy. i can believe that.
There might be a couple of things. The Chinese started buying again.
Energy prices took another jump this week at the oil company where i work. Home heating oil & kerosene went up. Gasoline went up. Diesel fuel went up twice. We're expecting prices of 4.50 - 5.00$/gallon for regular gasoline within the next few years. (There's a lot going on right now.)
I'm regularly seeing junk cars on flatbed trailers headed for the scrapyard this winter now that steel prices are up.
Sioux City at $140/ton. Shred. Not the best but definitely not the worst I have seen.
Shred up 20/ton. Now at 205/ton in Chicago Heights IL
Sioux city is at $150/ton
$160/ton here.
$170 and $185 and $220 at 3 local yards. Guess which 2 I don't frequent?

Shred up 40/ton. was 180, now 220. first price change since the end of march
Up to $185 in Las Vegas with sufficient quantity at the shredder yard.
