Shred down here too. Was 230/ton now 200/ton
Clean Sheet Iron 265/ton at the new yard. The other 2 local yards dont have a clean price.
Sioux City down to $175/ton for shred and $155/ton unprepared steel.
Well the new yard is right next to the other yard i use to go to. they were always trying to top each others prices for a couple months but the older yard gave up competing with them. Got Scrap is also owned by the auto wrecker yard next to the older yard. The older yard started buying cars so i think Wilkins didnt like that they were stealing their business and opened their own scrap yard next door.

I’m only getting $.04/lb for anything I bring in that’s steel or iron or cast iron…doesn’t matter that’s all they’ll give me…maybe I’m doing it wrong..I’ve had my buddies look over how I’m separating & they all say they’re getting $.11+ /lb for theirs..only one yard around my area so…I’m only getting $.40/lb on aluminum as well regardless if it’s clean or painted or extruded..cast..doesn’t matter…the guys are making double what I’m making & they don’t have to have theirs perfectly clean..idk what I’m doing wrong or if it’s just the fact that I’m a girl & what am I gonna do about it haha..they’re jerks here
Having only one yard in your area sucks and they lack competition to kick their ***. The nationwide prices are always low in winter and I wasn't there, but they look like they may take advantage of you. How far is the second closest yard to you? Depending on the distance, it can be worthy to pile up and wait for a bigger load there. Otherwise, if they're cheating, because you're a girl, go with a male friend, relative or colleague. I know it sucks, it can be a workaround, but it won't stop them from being cheaters. Anyway, if your aluminum is perfectly clean (no iron nor plastic nor dirt nor anything else. Aluminum has no contamination tolerance.), I would really look somewhere else if they pay flat price for any type of aluminum and I would weigh myself my stuff before going there in last resort. The description you make looks if they're bad at one place, they can be bad elsewhere in the process. It doesn't look like a serious business.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).
$170 for car bodies in Sioux City
Just got $260/ton for 4 tons of #2 prepared steel picked up at my shop 200 miles south of the buyer.
Sheet iron up 25/ton, now 240/ton
Clean Sheet iron up 25/ton, now 290/ton
How is that place? Haven't been yet, just letting everything pile up due to cold weather, but need to start moving it out soon. I was seeing their signs last fall, but big daddy kept price matching for me.
How is the in and out process? How many scales for non-ferrous? Whats the payout process. Been going to big daddy for several years, so I was very comfortable there, but money is money.
Its way easier to get in and out dude. Dont have to do a 6 point turn to get to the shred pile and they have more room for more than 2 trucks at a time. All there cast and hms piles are seperated so you know where to dump your stuff unlike big daddy you have to find someone and they have to radio it in. They have cameras so they know what you have by where you dump it. No giant pot holes, no deep puddles, not a mud pit, no heavy equipment almost running you or your truck over, no dump trucks / luggers dumping 2 ft way from your truck. They have 2 sales for non ferrous, but i only see one guy working the small scales. Pay out proscess is better than Big Daddy, Havnt got a check yet, all cash even for loads over $1000. Yard mgr Josh is a awsome dude, Hes out and a bout, interacts with the customers. I say give them a try.
I liked Big daddy, i use to go to metro in blus island b4 i went to big daddy. I liked it better when Jose and Taco were running the small scales, but since they are operators pretty much now, the new guys dont hook it up like they did. Big Daddy even gave me a bottle of wine for Xmas last year... that was pretty cool

Still holding at $170/ton at Sioux City. We were hoping for a bump at the first of the month. No luck.
Don't dis your price. Shred here is at CDN 85.00 / mt (USD 61.00 / ton) today. I always put my efforts on non-ferrous and shred is more like a by-product for me, but since most of the yards in the region have been bought by the same corporation, prices are always loosy. Also, they stopped showing our weight in and out on our ticket, we only got the commodity weight. I am not to drive hours for that, but we really need a better nearby yard for shred.
$0.13/lb is a first for me to see here in Pittsburgh area today.
Went it with a load of Clean Sheet saturday $300 a ton. Like it there, way more room to turn around. Left a business card, and yard manger called me yesterday to say hello, and to make sure I contact him with any questions or large loads
