Took a load in Saturday evening, and shred dropped another $10. Been a long steady fall from $260 ton to its current $95 ton. I believe it will recover some when the world wide economy picks up (which will increase demand), but who knows when that will be.

I got 95 a GT this weekend, but just got a text message from them to expect more drops this month.

Took a tumble here again today from $90/ton to $75/ton
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

It's a good thing I don't live on the ferrous scrap $$.
It was pretty good when I got in.

Another big drop here this week. Nose dived from $95 ton to $70 ton.

Do you think your prices stayed so high as you are close to Houston? I assume they ship metal out of there...

Honestly have no idea. Could possibly be, as the cost to ship the material would not be that much since relatively speaking Houston is not that far away.

$15 a ton in Reno nv. The guy here in Carson will take tin but won't pay for it......i wish I had room to stock pile it.

Took a hit down here as well on shred, but on a positive note, found a yard that pays great on boards(even mobo's), wire and ps. Now no more traveling to sell!!
Prices being paid by the mill are at or under 200 bucks a ton. It's really not hard to figure out why some people in the middle of nowhere aren't getting paid anything for ferrous metal at all. The price really has no bottom right now. More mills are considering idling equipment due to the flood and by flood I mean ship after ship dumping coils from China on our soil. President could care less and only a few congressmen in heavily industrialized areas have a clue as to what's being done but get nowhere trying to do something about it. The dumping of foreign steel has got to stop. It's killing everyone from the mill to the scrapyards to the peddlers. Everyone is losing in the food chain and it can't go on for much longer or else everything is gonna close up.

I have a U.S. Air Force magazine that has a article with pictures of one of the heavy lift cargo planes being loaded with shrink wrapped 4'x4'x4' pallets of new $100 dollar bills headed for China. WHAT was the trade? Cases of used and reconditioned SKS rifles.
Then there are the many tons of armor piercing ammo for these rifles that was shipped here and sat on docks as it was decided that such ammo should only be used by military and law enforcement agencies.
The answers are there if a person honestly wants to see and understand them. Most prefer to believe what tickles their ears and excites their eyes and denial of what bothers them.
It is no secret what caused the so called great depression of the 20's and 30's. The simple of it was that the U.S. was cut out of the export biz while there was plenty of foreign products being imported into the U.S. at the time.
The economic world operates much like the casinos do. As long as the people are interested in playing the shell games and keeping the illusion of money circulating, they get their percentage each time it cycles through the money machines & concepts.
What we have now is very few that can still play the shell games and stock market lottos where many will enter and few will win.
wish in one hand and poo in the other is the reality of substance that many must realize today.
I will settle for the poo and leave the wishing for others as they may dream of hot buttered corn on the cob and chocolate covered peanuts,
I just recycle the corn n peanuts that I find in the great poo sandwich of honest reality.
