As the demand for metals is down it will not matter if the small time scrapper stops or hoards all metal, prices are not going to go up very fast when they do... Only place that will feel it, if the scrappers stop turning in metal is the smaller yards. As stated before all scrap yards need metal in order to survive. Yards need to get creative on advertising, price structure and other ways to get the scrapper to turn in the metal. All while trying to control costs of doing business. One yard I go to the owner always comes over and thanks me for brining in metal.

Hobo - I think your 100% about the smaller yards. I like the way your local yard does the $0.10 increase after so many repeat visits.

#2 insulated wire down to $.43 a pound... but sheet iron is up to 40 a ton.

Almost a year from 1st post and sucks even more!

#2 Insulated wire $.45 lb.
Electric Motors $.09 - $.15 lb.
Compressor / Sealed Unit $.04 - $.08 lb.
