    SIMS closing yards

From AMM today, SIMS targets 35 yards, 800 jobs. They don't specify how many in N.A.. N.A. Yards are mostly central North America.

This s not good news for future metal prices since they claim to be the worlds largest metal and electronic recyclers in the world. It would be interesting how many other yards they are closing outside North America. If they cannot ride out the depressed prices, we should all take note.
Give back more to this world than we take.

In their 2015 financial projections, Sims Metal made this statement about some sectors of their business: Significant earnings improvement in the East and West was offset by extremely challenging competitive conditions in the North America Central Region.

That statement was echoed in the article. The article did not say how many of the 35 were in North America. It did say that the majority of the N.A. ones were in central part of N.A. they did talk about mainly feeder yards were they had multiple locations in 1 area. Chicago last week was an example of this.

There was also another article in the last few days that mentioned Omnisource and Schnitzer (in addition to Sims and DJJ) as closing some yards.

I heard last week from my "favorite" yard that Omni was looking at closing 6, one being a yard that takes in from their other yards and trucks it to Ft.Wayne. Might be trying to eliminate the trucking aspect.

    1.00 ZAR = 0.0596570 USD

    M/G PCB (MOTHER BOARD/SERVER MOTHERBOARD,VGA CARDS)
    30.46ZAR

    30.46 X .0596570 = $1.81

    CPU FANS
    3.92ZAR

    3.92 X .0596570 = $0.23

Please check my math. Your prices look good to me. Mike

Eh? They buy escrap? Mine doesn't.......

I just checked the scrapmetal prices (Not Simms prices, they don't advertise them.. But another scrapyard prices)

Domestic Copper is at NZ$4.69 a Kg. 14 months ago it was NZ$6.30 /Kg.

I started scrapping metals 15 odd yrs ago when Copper broke thru the $4 mark... for the first time ever.

I hope I can still get $5+ a Kg at Simms.
