    Keeps dropping on ferrous

I normally operate out of Houston however I am wrapping up a project in Memphis this week. I took first load of shred type scrap from site. 1300# at $0.0275 = $36. Last load I hauled in down in houston was $0.0325 a pound. It just keeps creeping down. I will be glad when it starts creeping back up. Feels like it will be a long time.

Two reasons to stockpile. Price and value when the economy shutters. Three loads have been hauled in the last year and a half just to create room. Continue to create projects out of scrap but scrap is the savings account. Short of WWIII, do not count on prices returning to reasonable levels until at least the summer of 2017. My guess is that smaller yards will continue to shut down, feeder yards will disappear, and trips to the scrap yard will involve great distance for those in the center of the country. Hang on, the rodeo has just begun.

Had to clear some space so I sold about 5000 lbs of steel yesterday in for 2 cents a pound. Could have made an 80 mile round trip for a whopping 1/2 cent a pound more.

prices are returning to a more reasonable level now....ive been doin this for 25 years...
it wasnt till china entered the picture that prices took off...if there is another housing bubble prices will rise...i think they will stabilize...hopefully soon...when i started out contracters would leave wire and pipe laying around cause it wasnt worth a scrap trip...its almost back to that level

Price for shred in Winnipeg, Manitoba yesterday was $0.035 per pound. At least I don't have to go out of my way to the yard. I can stop there in the morning on my way to work and still make it to work on time. I didn't want to take it in, but the trailer was full. Yes I am in Canada and that is the currency I'm quoting.

Keep at it and you will do just fine.
    Cheers.

I was surprised to see this, given you're in the middle of the continent. You're getting nearly double what we are in Ottawa. After consulting Mr. Google, I see Gerdau has a mini mill in your area. Is this where you sold your shred?

I have been getting between 1 and 2 cents a lb for shred since September. Not worth the trip unless someone is paying me, and nobody wants to pay because they think scrap is still worth something. I'm probably going to start picking up TV's again just to try and make something. I still can't believe that a fridge that would have gotten me $15 a year ago now gets me $2. Freaking ridiculous.
