At the current exchange rate, $55.00 Cdn is about $39.00 US. This is probably a bargain for the bigger scrap outfits just across the line in New York state.

Up to 75$ net tonne in Cornwall. Almost doubled from 45.
You are gross tonne in Ottawa.
Actually, it's bought in Metric tonnes (2,204.6 lbs). A gross ton is almost the same at 2,240 lbs. Net ton is 2,000 lbs.

Super Dave, does the Cornwall yard buy Dealer Clips (baling tin) or Mixed Tin grades as well? If so, do you know what they are paying?

Lightgauge is still NZ$0.00 a Kg......
I went to the yard and checked the price today, forgot to get the Copper price too, but I am sure its down anyway.

I would have expected to get something for my metal... Its really clean too.
But nah, zero, zilch, nada, nothing.

I have to shift it from where it is, its mostly computer cases/microwaves full of scrap, not that hard to shift and it stacks easy.
So now its going to get stacked on the side of my property under a tree where its dry, under a cover so it won't rust.
I'd rather shift it twice for something, than once for nothing....

They grade it the same as shred, 75$/net tonne.
Really glad it went up. Hope it continues..

Went to a yard I rarely get to go to and they were up to $50 a ton. My local is still at $20.... Was a nice surprise

I would be hauling if I had those prices. Prepared #2 is $ 30.00 a net ton and everything else is $ 10.00 a ton around here. They will not even give a quote for non ferrous over the phone because it is so low. Thinking of buying a semi and heading to the coast for a vacation.
Give back more to this world than we take.

it seems as long as I've been scrapping (8 years) steel goes up in January then drops again.

    I don't know why.

all I know is, 8 years ago we wouldn't be excited over a half penny rise in steel prices lol.

Gerdau In Cornwall pays the same price for dealer clips and mixed tin but are higher than Ottawa pays for dealer clips I think. Looks like we have good prices until next month or maybe March. Time to ship ship ship.

Just took a small load in on Wednesday and got $126 for shred, .50 for NM Stainless, .20 for auto batteries (in my case UPS batteries), .40 for cast aluminum. Considering I didn't take much of anything last year, due to prices, I'm glad to see them up even if it's only temporary. "We'll see" is the mentality I like to take when it comes to forecasting future pricing with ANYTHING. See video This is a scene from "Charlie Wilson's War" which is about the covert ops that the United States took part of during the Cold War Era, specifically in Afghanistan.
