Thumbs up Prices are up: Light Iron & #1 Prepared Steel

Over the last couple of weeks, prices are up for ferrous metal; albeit slightly around Southern NJ:

Light Iron from $3.00/hundred to $3.75/hundred

    # 1 Prepared Steel from $4.00/hundred to $5.00/hundred

Anybody see aluminum following? Pricing hasn't budged much on this one.

    Bob

Aluminum has no market relation to Steel, so do not try to link them,
Aluminum had no reason to go down, but since all other commodities did it could and did follow course... someone probably the mills/manufacturers made some serious scratch,. I assure you it was not the local scrap yard

Spot aluminum is down. Check historical graphs and you will see. But i'm not sure how long scrap yards take adjusting their prices. Any insight?

generally retail prices update weekly, (steel is more likely to be monthly) for good volume (5 ton ish) you can get an almost real time quote based of the morning market

Prices are up for steel here too. A while back I had a 1000 lbs load and got $13.00. Today I needed to make some space so I loaded up all the computer frames. They take up a lot of room but don't weigh very much. The load was 480 lbs and I got $15.00 I got more money for half the weight. I would imagine the yards are hurting a bit. It's usually busy there, but I was the only one there. Must take a bite out of profit considering you still have to do payroll. I will hold onto my lead, copper, brass and aluminum for a while longer.

Took a load in Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to find shred went up from 85 a ton to 100 a ton.

cars have been up to $4-$4.50 on the WV-swPA border past few weeks...

hopefully our prices will catch up with you folks.

seems like everyone and their brother is wanting a car hauled away, must be the change in weather.

i'm hearing rumors that steel will keep slipping up for another couple of weeks... lets hope it holds...

Basically mills cannot get the volume they want to see so they are slipping prices up a little at a time, sell or hold at your risk, because when they like the volume, prices will slip back down then hold
