    Dirty Brass

So a place in town has been advertising dirty brass for $.95 a pound. At some yards in the past they would take door locks with dirty brass for around $.55 a pound. When I go to the place guy removes all door locks and states they have there own category! Great I think... Got my pay slip and was paid die cast for them for only $.05 a pound LOL. And at my normal yard die cast would have been $.30 lb. Well I will still go back and get dirty brass price from them, but take my door locks to my normal yard and hopefully get dirty brass or die cast price for them as it pays more than a nickel for those items. We will see...

I learned I can't assume anything. I used to separate my aluminum, and when I got there they combined a bunch of it. So next time I had it combined and they separated it all out LOL.

One place weighed all aluminum separate only to mix it all together in the back of a semi truck after... go figure!

Three woman work at my main yard all employees can and do every job.
I'd say 1/5 times I go I get Patty on the floor scale, Pam is almost always running the truck scale. Although the owners daughter was running the truck scale last week.

Truck scales, yes. Non-ferrous, no. I can't really blame them though, they have better heat and air conditioning inside the office.
Copper, brass, and Leather. 3 of my favorite things.

Do you have an Irony Brass category in addition to Dirty Brass?

At one of the yards I go, I even had a 5 months pregnant woman as scale person / buyer. Weird.

Also, is there a way to separate the brass screw from the cheap plastic pipe that go to the valves and the spout? I unscrewed everything, but it looks like the last thing is a plastic tube is inserted in a hollow brass screw part each side and it won't move if I turn the brass part with pliers or a pipe wrench. If I try to pull on the plastic part, I think that it will break apart instead of moving out of the brass tube.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).

Could you post a picture ?

Without better information ... it sounds like a friction fit. They drove a plastic pipe into the inside of a brass pipe ? The plastic pipe is just a little bit bigger on the outside than the inside of the brass part ?

If that's the case .... cut one or two slits with a 1/16" cutting wheel mounted to an angle grinder. You make a lengthwise cut on the brass and then pry it open a little with a flat head screwdriver. That breaks the bind and the plastic part falls out.

I did what Hills suggested me. It worked well, but I had a surprise. After making a lengthwise cut in the brass pipes, I found that both brass and plastic had teeth that locked between them. I needed to pry a bit more, but it worked the same way. Thanks.
