Getting $110.00 a ton (2000K ) for my cars in the SE Ma area
We were at $.04 roughly a month ago for Lite Iron but we haven't moved anything in a few weeks. I don't expect any change for VT, though.

Scrap Metal Price, Pricelist - Metalcorp NZ
Lightgauge NZ$110 a ton (metric). About US$75. NZ$1.00 = US$0.70 cents
I get about 10% more than these prices for Aluminium, close to a major buyer.
%5 more for Copper, since its heavy, costs a lot, sells in bulk.
and 10% less for stainless, long way from buyer
and maybe 15% less for car battery's because they get double handled before exporting them.
I'm expecting increases this month. A few of the sheet metal producers have announced plan increase of $30 per ton for thier products.
The closest yard to me bumped up to .04 from .035. That is their rate for any kind of iron at all except for non-magnetic stainless.
I'm at $7 CWT
How do I get my yard to give me better price for heavier iron/steel. They always just call anything I bring "LDA mixed with scrap".

The only yard in my area is still pegged at $0.03 /lb as of Jan 03 2018
They do pay $0.04 /lb for 'heavy' steel that is clean.
We got lucky around here several years ago peddlers were paid shred price for anything steel they brought in, then a new yard opened up and paid for different steel by category or grade and most places have followed. I would check with your yard and see what they would pay for a truck load of prepared steel.
At this point still happy to get rid of leftovers from Ewaste......Old computer shells/printer shells.....Mixed steel with plastic.....Get around .04 cents per lb for this mixed bag......At least it keeps it out of landfill

Also one owner of small yard said they were getting more for the fluff that was coming off the shred than the metal itself

Unprepared $ 115 net ton
Prepared $ 135 net ton
Give back more to this world than we take.
Yeah whatever I bring, happy with that if that's a good price.
If I had a good load of all heavier stuff i'd probably just see if I could negotiate any like up .50 cents or something, the yard I used to go to would do that for shelves and stuff sometimes, or more volume. But yeah my yard's not very picky so otherwise i'll keep my mouth shut heh.
