Question What's the record low price for "shred"?

$60 - $65 per ton around here now. I am just wondering if this is close to record lows over the past 10 years.

The lowest I've ever seen prices around here was $0.01/lb $20 a ton around 9 or 10 years ago. I was a little guy around 9 or 10 so my parents took me to the yard to get rid of some junk that was piling up at home. Imagine how unhappy I was when all I got was $4.35 from that full truckload. I found out several years later from one of the workers that prices dropped down to $0.005/lb around that time.

I seem to recall people telling about signs at their yards saying something along the lines of ""You can leave it here, but we ain't paying".

Never saw pics of such, though.

Basically it was this for a short time in NZ, and if it had rubbish in it, it was 'You pay us'

Our yard was like that for about a year. Shred was $0/Ton. The lowest payout I saw was $10/Ton. That was the one time that I held onto computer cases. Hardly worth it with the low weight, but as a matter of principle....

The guy outside of bagram was paying the government around a penny a pound or so for scrap at the time I was there. Don’t know how much he bought or if he ever found a way to get rid of it but that’s also when scrap was high. When I got home it dropped to around 50 cents a hundred pounds at the yard I used to work at right out of high school.

Worked for some time in a yard in New Jersey (30 years ago) and at one point he started charging a $1 a hundred.
