    prices from Fresno California

    I took a load of aluminum scrap today -- 290lbs. at .65 for $188
    aluminum cans -- 27lbs at $1.85 for $49.95

I checked a couple of other prices #1 copper $3.75
    #2 copper $3.65

this was my first time using this scrap yard and the prices seem pretty good.

How do they figure the price in redemption state? I know it is .05 a can for the deposit that you paid on the can when you bought them. Do you get the deposit plus the alum value?

Every time you buy a beer or soda they just add the redemption to the total price, and I think most people still throw their cans away. It used to be 3.5 cents per can but I think its 5 cents a can now. I have seen places advertise $2.05 a pound with a coupon.

    Are you in Fresno California?

Because of the high value of some metals, and the resulting increase in metal theft, the State Legislature passed several bills intended to make it more difficult for thieves to earn money selling stolen metal. In addition to State Law, there may be local ordinances which impact the siting and operation of scrap metal recycling sites.

SB 691 (2008) and AB 844 (2008) prohibit a recycler from providing payment for non-ferrous metals until three days after the date of sale, with some exceptions. These bills require a metal recycler to photograph sellers of nonferrous metals, and obtain a thumbprint and a copy of the seller’s drivers’ license or picture ID. The recycler must also photograph the materials sold. These records must be retained for at least two years. AB 844 and SB 691 require those convicted of metal theft to pay restitution for the stolen materials and for any damage caused during the theft.

To answer your question. If you do find a yard that will do this, expect a lot less cash for your items.

If you are in California? Everything Hobo pointed out is true, I don't know any place I deal with that does not want a picture I.d. period. If you have never been to the yard and have no history of selling scrap, you may have to wait 3 to 10 days depending on yards policy. Yards I do business with, I have established a account with them and they issue me a preferred customer ID, but I have business & contractors license. They still photo me, my truck, my scrap, thumb print me and I show them their issued ID, always get paid same day.

There are yards that don't follow the rules, but I don't deal with them, why would I recommend one?
