    Rochester, NY prices 7/27/11

Took a small load in today, here are my prices:

    Electric motors 86 lbs @ $.18= $15.48
    #2 Copper 7 lbs @ $3.20 = $22.40
    Mixed insulated wire 33 lbs @ $.55 = $16.50
    Mixed metal 217 lbs @ $.11 = $23.87

$78 for a load I fit into my car. I had hoped for better prices on the wire and motors

There are some yards that lowball insulated wire prices. A yard I've been going to for my mixed scrap steel, pays only .30 lb for ins #2, as opposed to the yard in manvel i went to yesterday at 1.40 lb

I did mention to the small scale guy that i would take it elsewhere, he asked where gave more than .30...i listed off a few other yards and he offered to match them....you just gotta know what's going on.

Yeah, I should have asked for what the guy graded the wire as before he printed off the ticket. I had called ahead and was quoted $.40-$1.40 depending on grade and still don't know if I should have gotten a better price or not based on what I had. Most of it was from appliance cords and wires from inside computers. Oh well. And the motors I had forgot to get a quote on before hand. I didn't bother to call the other large place in town after I had been quoted $.30/lb for aluminum earlier this year on a scrap job for work which was pretty pathetic in my opinion.

If you cut off the "plug" end of the wire you should get around $1.60 to $1.75 ... regarding pricing... being on the other side of the deal, not all yards have the same outlets for the material yielding the same pricing... everyone has their strengths aka "niche(s)"

Yeah, this wire was 'clean'. No plugs or prongs and I had even cut off all zip ties etc from the computer wire scrap. Oh well Live and learn, will have to be more careful next time.

    and wires from inside computers
If it was the small wires from inside, that might be why they graded it down. power cord type wire should have been #1. it's a big enough gauge.
