Think this is based on a drag along vacuum rather than an upright, but it's calculated by adding motor (1kg approx £0.50) plus stripped No1 copper (£0.15), the rest being plastic. CRT TVs have the yoke plus degaussing coil which seem to be a lot heavier than the copper in the vacuum.

ah ok yeah i break the motor down for the copper in there and sell the plastic and motor casing in my steel pile. im just lucky my yard will buy anything for steel. and with the bigger tv's i 90%of the time find the degaussing cable to be alum. more of just a crap shoot i suppose.

In the UK if you take an appliance with lots of plastic on it to a scrapyard they will look at you like you have just landed a shiny, round UFO in their yard and descended from a beam of light.

The value you have for the CRT TV would probably be for a fairly small TV (or monitor). I just scrapped a 32" Sony and easily got 4 or 5 lbs of copper from the degaussing cables, yoke and misc. tuning coils. With the other miscellaneous items (heat sinks, transformers, etc.) scrap value should run about $12 - $14 (about 8 British pounds). Also, older microwaves can have a bit over 3 lbs of copper.

This is also true - many of the TVs I get given are very small, around 12-14in screens. Consequently the transformers and heatsinks are only a couple of inches wide. As said, this was never meant to be a definitive almanac, just a ready reckoner to see if it's really worth the fuel collecting.

Ask me on monday! My initial estimate is just under a fiver but I'll try and weight it out proper over the weekend. They're all steel with a motor attached so it won't be motre than a washer.

Great Topic, will be keeping this thread handy, just starting out, bit gutted ill have to break down everything. What is the price drop if you don't strip it out?

need to refigure the dishwasher, i picked one up the other day was pure plastic! excepting a lightweight motor and maybe a thin al skin on the front

It depends. If it's a washing machine, some yards won't even take it if it has the concrete still in it.
