The Iowa DNR is really on their butts. If they find any part of an appliance they get in trouble. some of them will accept the appliances for free(don't pay you), but they have to ship them out of state in order to get anything out of them. I'm living near Des Moines, IA right now. Moving near Kansas City in about a month, so sounds like their rules are a little more relaxed.
Mine will take gas/propane tanks as long as they are cut.
They do not take chain link fence (how are you supposed to recycle it then?? :confused lol
They do not take refrigerators untagged
They will not take whole AC's or dehumidifiers but will if they are broken down.
A yard by me said they no longer accept any copper that has been in contact with freon. C'mon. They are trying to eliminate the small scrapers as they will accept all the appliances with freon for free. Good thing there is a yard just down the block that accepts it.
What I dont understand is how your cutting propane tanks. You have some big cahonas if ya using torches, etc...
Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

I know it has been a while since anyone replied to this thread, but in my area they don't accept coaxial cable. Ditto for glass, but someone already mentioned glass.
3 of the 4 yards here don't accept microwaves, plastic tub dishwashers, and ewaste. There is still no outlet for CRTs in the whole area.
I'm pretty sure this guys not on here anymore. but since others started this thread back up I thought I would just point out that chain link clogs the shredders used. even if the yard you sell to doesn't shred themselves if they sell to a yard that doesn't take the chain link then they in turn will not take it. What happens is somehow downstream it clings to just about everything. Throw a lot in there and add a leaf spring or two and now you made yourself a net to catch just about every piece of steel trying to get through. since the mills don't shut off immediately even if you do catch it right away it still has a pretty good jam you gotta dig out. If you don't catch it right away you now have a situation where your trying to dig thousands of pounds of metal out of an area you can barely get anything to fit in. and you have to be real careful not to get your self or anyone else buried or stuck in something in the process. Every time we clog ours up I usually have to take a quick half shower in the sink to get all the insulation and fiberglass dust out of my skin otherwise I end up itching the rest of the day. And it takes a certain kind of person to climb into some of the places we have to climb into to unjam the belts. If a yard doesn't have that kind of person on the line that day, getting the thing unjammed is gonna be a way bigger problem.
We just have to have a visible hole in the propane tank and a 30-06 does the job much quicker at a safe distance than removing the valve. It also works to drain gas tanks. And for those that are curious, a lead bullet does not create a spark regardless of what movies portray.
